RIP CC/mods and all my save files.

Origin said I couldn't play the game until I updated. So I did... and what a mess.

If I check my gallery, all my Sims from before are still there. But CC/mods are permanently disabled, and all my saves are gone. Whatever this patch was has wiped every trace of my stuff from existence.

Thankfully, I had the foresight to copy my mods and saves folders to my desktop before updating. But, like, doesn't anyone test this stuff before breaking our games with it?

I'm guessing not all players are affected, since I've only encountered one other person who had this issue. Can this be fixed? And, if yes, how do I fix it?

Thanks.

  • The game automatically turns off mods when it updates, so when you start your game the first time you need to check the box to enable script mods again, and then restart the game. The next time you start the game all your mods should be back in your game.

As for broken mods, they need updating for most updates - it depends what they are, and if the new update conflicts with anything in the mods. But if you save the websites for the different mods you have, then whenever a new update happens, then all you need to do is go to them and replace your old files with the new one once they're updated. Modders tend to be pretty good with updating things quickly, often on the same day as the update.
    I hope this helps!

Except that the button I would normally click to re-enable mods is unclickable. It's greyed out; clicking it does nothing.

I'm just glad I backed up my save files, because they're all gone. My game looks like a clean install, nothing in it.

Going to try repairing game and hope for the best.
  • Your cc and mos shouldn’t be permanently disabled. You should be able to go into your game settings > gameplay > other and re-tick the box(es) to enable your cc and your mods.

Now is your saves folder completely empty? Or even gone from your Sims4 folder? I have never heard of that happening before. If the actual folder still has saves in it maybe it’s just a matter of repairing the game because it’s not reading the files which you can do by going to your library in Origin and right clicking the cover art for Sims4 and then select repair.

If your saves folder is gone or empty, have you checked your recycle bin?

In the future before you update make a copy of your entire Sims4 folder and put it on your desk top, or hard drive or thumb drive prior to running the update so you have a back up. If you don’t want to do it to the entire Sims folder then copy your folders that have files in them labeled

    Tray
    Saves
    Screenshots
    Mods
    Custom music

You can also copy the file labeled options or options.ini this contains all of your settings like if you use the Sims3 camera, the length you prefer your seasons if you have that pack, the length of your lifespan and so on.

I had this issue too. The enable script mods should be the one which is greyed out. If it is you will need to check the normal mods option first then that should unlock the other option.

Also my save file was ruined but after repairing the game it fixed it for me.
  • Thank you everyone :)

Good news is, I got my stuff back~ after I repaired the game through Origin, I was able to re-enable mods. I still had to replace the borked saves folder with my old one though.

(to the person who asked: I still had a saves folder, it was just empty. So I don't know if the whole folder or just the contents got deleted.)
