sims getting sick too often?

Ok so i don't know if this is normal or a bug, but my sims keep getting sick so easily and
repeatedly
Like if purchased a medicine to cure the sickness then 1 day later they are sick again ! Sometimes twice in a day -.-
I also find it ridiculous that my doctor sim can't cure his sick wife or son or himself!

  • The "good food that tastes bad" was a glitch when sims ate the fruitcake. That was suppose to have been fixed in a patch, but it might still be effecting your game. Has your sims at the fruitcake at all? Two of my sims were completely ruined by that blasted fruitcake. Everything, and I mean everything, they ate after they hated. It drove me insane.

It seemed to have been fixed. I know it was supposed to have been fixed.

A bunch of them have fruitcakes hanging out in their inventories where I guess they were in welcome wagon parties while I was playing other households. But yeah, it's hurting the fruitcake haters again.
  • I lucked out on the fruitcake issue. I thought this was hilarious -- neighbors showed up to greet my sim when I first moved him in and of course, they brought the fruitcake. Then the visitors proceeded to eat ALL of it themselves, lol. My sim didn't get any! So, I guess they did him a favor by scarfing down all the cake before he could have any. ;)

My little sim girl has been sick off and on for three days now, but after that last dose of medicine, the illness hasn't returned and no one else has gotten sick. Maybe I've seen the end of it.
  • I have never had a sim sick, how does that happen, do you have a sim doctor career or something.

You just have to have GTW. I got in-game illness before ever having a doctor in any of my families.

I swear the welcome wagon brings sickness with them, like, half the time.

I'm getting constantly sick sims too, and yes one of my households has a doctor.
What annoys me the most is that I buy the medicine and it doesn't seem to work, as soon as the buff quickly runs out - their sick again straight away. I've tried the tea/juice and it doesn't help much either, same issue as the medicine.

    Some helpful points/insights Cinebar, thanks!
I hadn't thought about dirty objects or about the Dr washing his hands - didn't think they'd make this game THAT realistic lol.

Drink the tea and or juice right after the medicine, they will be healed and not get sick for awhile. When you first go to the hospital one of the first things is to learn to wash the Sim's hands. Read the text accompanying that list of things to do. ETA: Also read the text when they fumble when taking a temperature etc. It does matter in my game or at least it seems to matter. But getting the reward to stay healthy actually works 99% if time.
  • Allow me to necro this ancient forum. This post is dedicated to all us nerds who still kill the occasional weekend with this great game.

This issue is caused by something we can't really see in the game. There is no "health meter" so to speak, but it's there. Sickness happens when your sim is doing one of several possible unhealthy things on a regular basis. If you never exercise, always eat the same things, don't drink enough tea/juice, and hang around other sick people (or people who are around sick people; doctors) you will find your sim eventually getting sick a lot.

It doesn't happen right away (when starting a new game) but after a while it will start to occur and not go away until you change your habit(s). It especially sucks when you have more than one person in the house, because if one gets sick everyone does and it can be hard to cure them all at once before one can get another (that you just cured) sick again.

To stop this: You need to exercise, eat a variety of foods, avoid sick people, reduce stress, socialize, enjoy the outdoors, etc. Basically you need to just do a variety of healthy/positive things for your sim. People often play the game like their sims are slaves, doing nothing but work and chores everyday and this brings your "health meter" down.

I discovered this when i made an athletic sim who exercised all the time and drank a lot of tea/juice. He was a foodie who ate all sorts of different foods, and he was very social and partied with his friends a lot. I enjoyed the outdoor camping expansion a lot with him. Dude barely went to work, always maxed out his vacation days, total slacker. But he was healthy and never ran into this sickness issue. My work-a-holic tech guru however, ran into this issue only a couple weeks in and just got sick every day no matter how much medicine I made her take. She never recovered. I just ignored it after a while.

Moral of the story is; it's not a bug. Just treat your sims like fun playable characters and don't stick them in unhealthy routines. It's not a "bad mechanic", in fact it's one of the most realistic parts of the game.

Reminder: getting sick happens occasionally no matter how careful you are. If you are doing the above and still getting sick a lot chances are you have a sick co-worker/friend you are in contact with a lot. It will go away in time.

That's pretty coolt actually. I always thought that sickness was random :open_mouth:
  • This was driving me so crazy I had to download a mod to stop it entirely.
  • I also had this with one of my sims. She was constantly sick throughout her pregnancy, and had those weird rashes which just make my skin crawl just looking at them. Especially the ones with the lines. *vom*
