spouse death/not "black widow" scenario

Bear with me, this is going to be a long description.

So I finally got around to creating a sim to play through the Paranormal content. My backstory is that Josie is a YA sim who inherited a house from an unknown distant relative and moves in sight unseen. I downloaded the Maxis-created paranormal lot, placed it in Willow Creek, and used the free real estate cheat to simulate an inheritance. My plan was for her to poke around the house, find the seance table, decide to mess around and commune with the departed to learn more about the relatives who left her the house. She would discover a gift for the supernatural and ultimately become a paranormal investigator. Also, her pursuit of knowledge would quickly lead her to Glimmerbrook, where she would stumble into the magic realm and become a spellcaster, thus also helping her level up more quickly as a medium.

She moved in over the weekend, and over the next couple of days, things went pretty much according to plan. By... I want to say Tuesday... she was in the process of becoming a spellcaster when she got that notorious "do you want an inheritance" phone call. It seemed to go well with her backstory of inheriting the house, so I went with it. Of course, now she has a tense mood all the time from the stress of finding a quickie marriage, so rather than focus on her craft, I've been having her hit various festivals and events trying to find The One. She's a romantic at heart, so doesn't want a completely mercenary marriage of convenience. I've only got four days left, but I think she's settled on a townie she's befriended; Bill's a bit nerdy, but cute, and they share a love of art, so I think he'll do. If I can make the timing work, and I think I just barely can, I may have them go on an outing to this summer music festival; she's very bohemian, so I think a spur of the moment wedding at a music festival would be perfect for her.

However... the poor sweet doomed townie doesn't know it yet, but he's not long for this world. I like him well enough for her, and I'm not in a huge rush to get rid of him, but I don't think he's end game material (i.e., I'm not that interested in actively playing him), so I need to find a suitable death for him sooner or later to take him out of the picture. But I don't want it to be anything that implies that she murdered him (like removing the pool ladders, if that even works anymore, or locking him in a room with no food). She's not at all the black widow type. Maybe he could be scared to death once the paranormal activity kicks in at home? Is there any way to increase the odds of that happening?

I play rotationally, and normally skip around haphazardly, but decided I was going to give this sim a full year in the rotation. So the story arc I'm envisioning for her is that over the course of a year, she moves into her new home, finds her paranormal calling, falls unexpectedly in love and marries spontaneously, has a brief honeymoon period, tragically loses her husband, and then goes through a grieving process that helps her become a more sensitive and intuitive medium while he also learns to let go and move on to the next plane.

I would love any thoughts or suggestions about the best/most appropriate death for him, as well as insight into how the whole ghost spouse process works.
