The Sims 4 focused aim & execution on inclusivity /representation - helpful or harmful?

If things keep going in the direction this game seems to be taking, they should just rebrand it as The Selves instead of The Sims and be done with it. Of course, by that point I'll no doubt be long gone because I've never had any interest in making "selves" in the first place. Diversity and representation are great, but I truly hope all this (sometimes awkward) effort is just a few extra bumps in a road that was already bumpy and that it won't actually end up the main focus for the game in the end.
