Thought Exercise - Kid sized spells

So this thread got me thinking...

If they added spells for kids, what, really, should they look like? What about toddler accidental magic?

I'm going to put some guidelines on this. I'm not a fan of things like "homework" spells that really have no "adult" parallel in the existing spell structure and would only be useful to kids, so I'm going to ask that any spell or accidental magic suggested is basically a limited version of an existing spell or spellcaster perk.

For example
Toddler Power: Unstuck. Adult Spell: Teleportate
If they "get stuck" in the high chair, in the course of their tantrum, they may spontaneously teleport to the floor, or their dollhouse, or maybe the toddler jungle gym.

Kid Spell: Snackeroo. Adult Spell: Delicioso
Kids can summon their favorite quick meal - Chips, PBJ, chicken Nuggets, etc.

Kid Spell: Treatify. Adult spell: Delicioso
Kids can transform dinner into a slice of cake, or a plate of cookies. With Parenting, adults can discipline them for skipping dinner this way.

What else might kids magic do?

  • I would say it would be the exact same inferno, zip-zap and chillio, deliriate, furio, infatuate, depress, duplicate, copy-pate, all of it.

There is no reason to nerf spells for children nor toddlers. I’m tired of the whole facade that Children are innocent angels that need protecting.

Now are they wise enough to make good decisions no. But they are powerful especially when they’re belief and imaginations they are involved.

It should be up to me to decide.
  • I'm gonna keep comparing this pack to Makin' Magic even though I really should stop at this point, But they did a really good job with child spells. So Bring back Make Cakes from Makin' Magic: Basically Delicioso but with cakes with the chance to backfire and summon frogs!

Also Copypasto, Scruberoo, Duplicato. And then some kid only spells like Homework Completo and maybe an imaginary friend summoning spell.

This. If anything, I would be okay with toddlers getting special treatment, but even then, it would be more realistic for them to use their powers intuitively. I can't imagine a toddler having the discipline to stand there and practise magic until they reach a high enough level to minionise adults into playing with or taking care of them, but a child, definitely!

I like these spells; they are very clever and well done. I especially like their names. I can't come up with such clever names myself, but I do have a few ideas. I would like kids and toddlers to react to negative situations or strong emotions with magic. When they are tense during a snowstorm or thunderstorm, it would be neat if they could teleport themselves back to their beds (to hide under a blanket) or into a closet, and alleviate their anxieties. When they are bored, they could summon their favourite toy to play with, or a children's book to read or a toddler book to look at, or conjure a child or toddler-sized invisible friend (like in TS3). If angry, they could make a mess from a distance, or destroy something nearby inadvertently, or maybe turn their parents into gnomes temporarily (after which they could be disciplined of course). I don't mind, and rather like, the idea of unique kid spells, which reminds me of the child versions of spells in "Makin' Magic." Some of these were powerful like "Age of Instant" (which aged a kid up instantly into an adult) or "Invisible Friend" (which conjured an invisible friend for the child). Of course, I knew we would not be getting any child magic, with all the new and separate animations that would require. Oh well, maybe someone will make a mod.

I mean toddlers can be very manipulative. ? But that's the other thing, kids could learn from watching their parents, seeing them use spells could be enough.
  • I really like this idea and honestly think it would be a good addition to game play. Toddlers and children don't need to gain experience from casting a spell necessarily. The spell casting should be situational as mentioned before. Children going through "phases" like "picky eater" would obviously turn any food they disliked into what ever their desire was for an example. Toddlers summoning toys, phasing from highchair to floor when being fussy. Nothing major, just little spontaneous stuff from the children that can be reinforced or reprimanded by the parents.

there's animations I hear in CAS for children to do "spellcaster" animation. So how hard would it be to code it into the game for them to do actually spells, or drink potions?
  • I would have loved for toddlers to maybe accidentally make themselves levitate, or if they wanted a bite of food, they could make it float to them, or have their teddy bear/favorite toy float to them. How cute would it have been to have toddlers doing that and then their parents be shocked, or even giving them that little tapping of the foot and shaking their finger at them because they were using magic in the house.. lol!

Kids to have some light spells, maybe some spells to get their siblings to do chores for them, or to clean up their room, or something like that and animations as you said - that would have been fun.

Ahhh, so many missed opportunities. :(
  • I really think the idea of magic especially for kids is cute..

Here's a couple. Toddlers have no control of their magic, but they may teleport around the house and magically make toys appear/dissapear.

    Kid spells:

Complete Homework (if failed the homework is destroyed and their school performance goes down)

Conjure Toys (works like the conjuring food/plants. Click on the ground and a toy appears) If failed it conjures homework instead.

Teleport should be available for kids to learn

Teens should also gain the homework spell

  • I don't even dabble in family play, but these are great ideas

That conjure toy fail is hilarious, bonus points if they actually have to complete it.
(adding abit of my own idea into the mix) Idk if there is already a teleport fail in RoM but I would like it if when a kid or toddler fails the teleport spell they disappear off the lot for a duration, kinda like how sims get abducted by aliens.

The parents would get a strong tense moodlet called "Where's my child!?" and sims that hate children would get a happy one during it and when the kid comes back they get a slight happy moodlet talking about the little adventure they went on.
