Waffle Explains It All: A Series of Deep Dives of Game Mechanics

I've been doing these for a while as an attempt to fill the void left by Carl's Guides no longer updating, but mostly focused on stuff I get curious about and decide to look into.

I've just compiled a convenient way to access them all via a spreadsheet and thought I'd share!

You have to click the tab at the bottom of the page to get to it.

It features a full overview of every venue type, too! That was a big series.

    I see, thanks! Something might have been programmed incorrectly then...

    Anyway, in short, there exist hidden moodlets that should prevent Self-Discovery moments for either Cat Lover or Dog Lover, but for some reason, either the hidden moodlet doesn't get applied in the right situations, expires before the Self-Discovery moment, or the moodlet gets ignored.

    What exactly could it be I don't know... Tuning files are confusing on self-discovey stuff...

    I have experienced a situation where my with 4 dogs interacted with them and got suggested a cat lover trait. I denied it and the next day game suggested dog lover for him.

    Yeah, Eco Footprint thing is weird, but I guess they wanted to at least include some drawbacks to Green eco footprint. Otherwise, there's only positive aspects to Green eco footprints...

    But yeah, still, cool work you've done.

    It's possible they fixed the animal ones but I've seen lots of pictures of it happening. You get a cat interaction to trigger the dog one and vice versa.

    For the eco footprint, intentional or not, it reads as broken imo 😆it makes little sense than an industrial footprint would grow plants better, completely unintuitive. Perhpas they meant it as an incentive to have industrialized areas. I made a mod that fixes this "issue", and added my own incentive- green areas grow plants so well that they get littered with weeds and bugs. Industrial areas grow them so poorly you basically never get weeds or bugs. A much better trade off IMO

    Ooh... That is cool and interesting.

    I have also made guides on these forums on the tuning file finds, for example:

    Take a look at them and if you see anything that needs changing, let me know!

    Though some things I have to say:

    • The title "Why Your Sim Who Just Pet A Dog Wants To Become A Cat Lover" kind of makes me want to ask "Have you experienced this in game?". The reason is that according to my findings, sims who interacts with dogs get a special moodlet that blocks the Self-Discovery moment for Cat Lover trait. Same thing for cats and Dog Lover. However, in both cases, sims could still get suggested Animal Enthusiast trait.
    • On Eco Footprint though, I remember that the developers said in the live stream that this is intended that plants in the Green neighborhoods take longer to grow... Someone correct me if I'm wrong though...
