2 Resource based Questions: SIMO (0x025ED6F4) And LOOK (0x71BDB8A2)

Alright, So We're looking for more information on the SIMO resource type. The main thing of it is what does it control? What does it tie into? and what uses it? For lack of better wording, Would there be any way to get a small documentation on this resource?

Aside from the SIMO Resource, I am also curious to know more on the LOOK Resource ( I don't have the number on the top of my head RN), which appears to be in relation to the Styled Looks in CAS. What more should we know about how the LOOK Resource works? Can I ask on the possibility of making custom Styled Looks in the sense of TS4 supporting it? May I also ask if it is possible to make a custom Styled look, how would one go about with it? is it through the SIMO Resource or through the CASP? I also am curious to know how the game, if custom Styled Looks are doable, will handle Custom Content in a Styled Look.

@SimKuree might have more questions, but there's mine

Edit to Add: I didn't want to double post so I'm just gonna roll my two resource questions into one.

  • Snaitf has made a styled look wrapper at http://www.den.simlogical.com/denforum/index.php?topic=3325.0 Maybe that will help?
  • That was already looked at (Thanks) But the main Issue I am questioning EA on is More or less the possibility of making new Styled looks along with more depth as to how the Styled looks are handled in game more or less.

I summed up my 2 main questions on Styled looks in the list.

    • How does the game handle Styled Looks? This means how does and will the game handle Styled Looks in relation to things like CC and etc. . The major problem of creating Custom Styled looks from my perspective would be people using Custom Clothing and such in these looks and I want to know how the game is set up to handle a Styled Look and what the game will do if CC a user doesn't have is in a custom Styled Look.
    • Will it be possible to make Custom Styled Looks? We could sit here and clone that resource Day & Night but if the game doesn't support it, then it's pretty much useless.
  • Hello Levini,

Yes you can make custom featured looks.

The LOOK (0X71BDB8A2) resource is what actually what adds the Styled Look to the UI. It contains the text key, thumbnail information, tag info, sort order, etc.

The SIMO (0X025ED6F4) resource is what defines what the styled look is, i.e. the clothing used for the Style Look. The LOOK resource contains a reference to the SIMO resource.

The SIMO resource just contains a list of resource keys, these key can reference custom content. If the user does not have the custom content it should fall back to the default standard part, same as how if you download an item with CC from the gallery it falls back.
  • ok good, Thanks. I had a slight suspicion it would behave like that and custom Looks were possible, I just wanted to make sure (Can't be too sure)

Now a kinda Basic question, what can't a Styled Look apply to the sim? From what the Base ones given I've seen them apply clothing, shoes, accessories, hats and Makeup. Would it be able to apply a specific hairstyle and tattoo or are those off the limits?
  • Yeah that's how the feature is designed, the styled looks only applies to clothing. The SIMO actually defines the entire sim, as you can see in the thumbnails - but when they are applied it only changes the clothing.
