Mods disabled after update

I looked at the link.  I use Avast however the posted photos don't match my version.  I'm at a loss.   I really need to be led by the hand so I can enable my mod.

Also, my popup says mods are disabled because of update.  I updated days ago, I've played since the update, and now I want to add just one script mod.  What on earth?

  • The_Mercuria  This problem has been around for as long as Sims 4, but it flares up occasionally.  The June patch introduced the DirectX 11 version, which now uses TS4_x64, while the (still default) DirectX 9 version of the game now uses TS4_DX9_x64, which didn't exist prior.  So anyone who needed but had already set an exception for the game needed to add a new one unless they switched to DX11 mode.  Additionally, some antivirus software has been flagging TS4_Launcher_x64, which to my knowledge was never a problem (and the executable may not have even existed) before June.

Regardless of what version of Avast you have, you WILL have the ability to set exceptions.  I can't tell you exactly where to look because I don't use the software; that's why I tried to find some documentation on Avast's site.  If that and your own google searches don't help, poke around a bit.  The settings have to be in there somewhere, or all the other users of Avast's free version wouldn't be able to play either.

  • The_Mercuria  Is this the article you were reading?

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2020/10/add-exceptions-to-anti-virus-programs.html

    Instead, try this one:

    https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/antivirus-scan-exclusions/

The easiest approach is to add an exception for the entire Bin folder that holds TS4_x64.exe and the others.  The default location is here:

    C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin

If you've installed the game elsewhere, that's the location where you'd look.

My Avast doesn't look like the images in the second link.  I have the free version.

So, is this problem specific to the last update? I've always been able to re-enabled mods from game options when I log in after an update.  Every time I do now, and re-log in, it says moda disabled your game has just been updated.

I'm like, dude! My game was updated days ago!  The game never listens to logic. 😭

I seriously feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Oh! I forgot to mention that EA games is already on my exceptions list!  I did that forever ago and forgot.

  • Have you enabled Mods? Per EA Help this is how you do it: Re-enable Mods via the options panel. The setting can be found in Game Options > Other > Enable Custom Content and Mods.
