- @Bluebellflora okay ive been playing for about an hour and a half and its been running smoothly and quicker and i havent had a problem yet in my clean game. what should i do next bc there are some saves I really want back? should i just add them back without CC. the one save i was playing though is the only one i experienced trouble with. should I just give up on that one or do we think its most likely broken CC?

Great! Move the problematic save into the newly created saves folder, do not move any other files such as other saves or CC/Mods, just that one save. Play for a bit and see how it is. If it freezes/crashes again, then the issue may be a corrupted save. Unless it always crashes at the same point in which case there may be an in-game trigger for it.
Moving your thread to the Game & Mod issues forum as it's not a Mac issue 🙂 I play on a mac and have an old thread in the mac forum. but i emptied my game, and I think that the problem is old/ broken cc. I only use MCCC mod and i had that updated to the latest version so i dont think that is the problem. Im just not sure how I would find out which exact cc is causing my game to freeze.

Move your Mods folder to the Desktop and delete localthumbcache.package. Then test the game in a new save.
If it works now check for updates to your Mods and CC. Add it back a little at a time while testing until you have found all that are broken. - @jpkarlsen I have a lot of CC so Im not sure which needs updates/ where I found some of them/ how would i know they are broken in game? Ive gone in CAS and everything ive tested so far I couldnt tell that anything was broken so im just confused
Also delete the localthumbcache.package.. where do I find that? @kfoiu2h74hgn Most broken CC doesn't cause game freezing. If it does and gets reported, it'll end up on a Broken/Updated Mods list here (this is the link to the newest iteration), but none has been reported recently. Game freezing is more likely to be a mod.
Here are instructions on how to run a test of your Mods folder to find out what's broken: 50-50
Localthumbcache is a file in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 You need to delete that file every time you delete or replace a file in the Mods folder.
@luthienrising the only mod i had in was MC command center, and it was up to date. so thats why ive been confused about it. Im nervous to put it back in my game
@kfoiu2h74hgn It may not be a mod but CC that's your issue. I see that you've had this issue on and off for a long time. You need to do a test in a clean folder, on a clean save, and then work from there.
Here's how to do that test:
- Exit Sims 4 then drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop.
- Launch Sims 4 and reset your Options.
- Start with New to test as long as you need to to determine if your issue recurs you have the game-freezing problem.
If that works, let me know and I'll take you to the next step in isolating your problem. Your old saves and mods/CC and Library content will be safe on your desktop waiting for when testing is done.
someone else previously instructed me to do that, so I have already done that. and my game has been running smoothly since. I am just nervous about putting my CC back in as i'm not sure how to tell which may be broken. I put everything on my sims in CAS and everything looked fine? I started the 50/50 method too but so far no figuring it out
@kfoiu2h74hgn What you'd aim to do is to put the content back in batches and play awhile to see if you get the freezing happen. It doesn't matter whether a Sim is wearing the content or not. I'd suggest putting any new batch in a subfolder called "testing" so you know that's your current untested batch.
