No interactions appear when clicking my Sim

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.98.158.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Growing together, cottage living, cats and dogs, seasons, city living, get to work, get famous, island living, get together, snowy escape, dream home decorator, parenthood, dine out, spa day, outdoor retreat, tiny living, laundry day, vintage glamour, backyard stuff, perfect patio, toddler stuff, movie hangout, fitness, bowling night, desert luxe, industrial loft,
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I’ve gone through my mods/cc and updated everything and taken them out of my game but the issue is still occurring.
What happens when the bug occurs? I can’t click on my sim to have any options show up. Example: I can’t self click to change my outfit. But but I hold down shift then click, the options show up for that.
What do you expect to see? I would like to see the prompts for clicking on my sim to show up. So if I’m in a different place than my home I’m able to change my outfits.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. It happened after the newest game update. I’ve updated all my mods and I’ve taken them out of my game to see if they were the reason but it still happens with no mods/cc.

I don’t have screen shots or videos

[CM Edit: Title update]

  • Hi @Kelsss28

    Try the following

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry
    • Start a new save game
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.
  • Thanks for the advice! I’ve had mods for years but never ran into anything like this and I’m not very tech savvy when it comes to issues like this. Do I literally just click the folder to rename it? Or does more go into than that?

@Kelsss28 Just give it a new name. That's all there's to it. It won't be recognized by the game anymore if you rename it and the game creates a new fresh folder when you start it so you can test if it works on that.

Once you have verified if it's a mod/cc issue or not, you can start putting your stuff back but I'll help you with that once you've tested on a new save.
  • Sounds good! It’s been a busy week so I probably won’t be able to get to it until this weekend. I’ll update you once I change the name

  • I had that same problem with the bug issue, and tried your suggestion.    It worked for me

@ladynienna21 Do you need help putting your stuff back to see what's causing the issue ? I'm assuming it was a mod/cc ?

@ladynienna21 What have you done ? Just the rename ? Have you tried copying back just your save and then see if it still works ?

If it does, then it's a mod and you need to find out which one.

  • Ok I renamed it like you said. I did notice after relaunching my game that it looks like I started over. Though after launching the game I went back and read your comment to someone else, you mentioned putting the mods back into the game after.. I left my mods in.. I tried taking my whole mod folder out before I reached out for help to see if that was the issue. But it seemed like when I put the mod folder onto my desktop, and put it back, it doubled the mods/cc. I did go through all my mod/cc folder just now and found a few that haven’t been updated in a very long time. So I’ll just leave those sit on the desk top until I hear back. I’m unsure now what to do with this updated name folder and how to work it with the mods. Not sure if it’s important to note that while I left the mods in the folder after the rename and launching the game, the cc/mods didn’t show up in game

@Kelsss28 Mod folder needs to stay OUT until you verified that it works without mods and THEN made sure they are all compatible and updated.

Just follow the instructions above and let me know if it works on a new folder when NOTHING put back. Yes, it will be like you start the game for the first time. Try on a new save if interactions work.

If it does, you can start putting your stuff back but first only a copy of your save game. Mods need to stay out till the very last step of the troubleshooting step.
