Resource.CFG file

So I was downloading some mods and they said to add that text to the resource.cfg file. So I opened the file in notepad to add the text and now the file is showing up as a notepad and its just called resource. Is it going to be a problem with my game?

  • Yes. The file must have a .cfg extension and not a .txt extension. You can open the .cfg file in notepad and save it, but you can't save as because that will save it as a text file. The file extension is hidden by the way.

If you mess it up simply save your mods then delete the mod folder and then launch the game. A new mod folder will be re-generated and them you can put your mods back in. The text in the file should look something like this:

    Priority 500
    PackedFile *.package
    PackedFile *\*.package

I added an additional "PackedFile *\*\*.package" so that it will read two folders down. You can add more.
  • Thank-you so much for the help!! I am going to do that right away. I might just skip those mods that ask to edit the resource file!

    Edit:
Okay so I did that and the file still comes up as a text file. Whenever I download the resource file it comes up as notepad now. But under type of file it does say CFG file. My mods still "seem" to work but is there any way to stop it from being a notepad file?

When I click on properties of "resource" it says

Type of file: CFG file (.cfg)
    Opens with: Notepad
  • There is no problem with the file being connected to notepad. What has happened is that windows now recognises that the file can be opened with notepad and now it will do so when you double click it. No need to try to reverse this.
  • Thank-you! I've been having issues with my game since the update, I'm just happy something has gotten resolved! Lol. Happy it should still function in my game. Thanks again!
  • When I install mods, do I keep it in the same file as the resource.cfg? Or do i have to addd it to the file itself?

    Hello @steph_006
You add the mods/cc to your mods folder, which also contains the separate resource.cfg file. The resource.cfg is in the folder as a separate file to your cc/mods files.
