@lexnastics Does sound like your antivirus program is blocking something.
(I merged your posts into one so all the info is kept in one place)
What should I be looking for, I believe I'm just using Windows security, haven't messed with any of its settings. Only got the pc back in June.

Just tried to follow this but sims 4 doesn't show up as an option? Put a picture below. As you can see it's located on my desktop however it's not shown as such in the excemptions area.

@lexnastics You need to pick the path where your game is installed.
The default path is: C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4\Game\BinYou're currently looking at your desktop-
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@lexnastics If you're using defender, it's usually the controlled folder access. It often happens that something starts to be blocked after updating the game cause defender protects your documents folder from changes.
Just add Sims 4 as an exception.
