SIMS update & MOD failures
The update fix is available but may not resolve all mod content, some of which may not be usable until authors update them due to textures and DirectX. This can be bypassed by starting the game using C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\TS4_DX9_x64.exe. This does two things, forces DirectX 9 mode and not 11 (new default) + it downloads a working version of the executable for DirectX9 already patched.
Additionally, some mods are stepped in sub-folders which can be missed by the indexing system (now) even though the config.ini states how many sub-folders deep the index will "look". This can be fixed by scripting symbolic links to be re-indexed and built into the Mods root as opposed to requiring the index to work correctly. If you are manually installing mods, its easier to simply take all the files out of the folder trees created by extracting the .zip files and placing them in the MODS folder directly.
Also, if you have had a loading issue, remember to delete "localthumbcache.package" and "
accountDataDB.package", then open EA App, go offline, and start the game. These files will be recreated and indexed. This will make most of your mods playable.
Have fun, took 7+ hours to figure it out. LOL
