stuck in loading screen

Ever since the first February update, my game has been being weird. The first time this happened, I loaded into my game which worked and then into my household for it to get stuck in the loading screen. I did 50/50 with my custom content and found what it was, something in buildmode. I played for a while and then the next day tried to open sims again, same thing happened. I did 50/50 again and found another buildmode item to be the cause. now its happening again today, another item in my buildmode folder causing this. I can load into/travel to the house when I'm playing as a different household, but as soon as I try and switch to my household it gets stuck in the loading screen. I dont understand how I can play the game with no updates in between and it suddenly stops working. The first time it was tiny travelers cc and the next was shabby chic cc set by shino sims, I haven't even attempted to figure out which item it is today

  • JordanHanlon444 Do you have anything like OneDrive or iCloud running that might be moving files on you? I just downloaded both that creator's Shabby Chic dining room and all of Tiny Twavellers and put every item in my test Sims' home, and I was able to reload the household fine.

    Try this:

    1. Rename the whole user folder (Documents > Electronic Arts > The SIms 4)
    2. Start the game and exit
    3. Copy your old saves into the newly created folder and try again (Exit without saving)
    4. Copy old mods into the newly created folder and try again

I'll note that we've seen issues before with TSR-created resource.cfg files. When you let the game recreate the user folder or mods folder, that gets replaced by the game one.

Thank you so much for your response and taking time to load those cc items. I searched for Onedrive in my applications after I got a better exceptions report earlier saying I had it installed but I couldn't find it in my apps. I just now went into sims 4 mod manager and deleted a whole bunch of buildmode items I didn't want anymore, opened the game and it ended up loading but gave me a message saying that I had deleted a few items off of the lot. I can guarantee the same thing will happen again eventually and I will definitely try your method, unless you recommend doing it anyway even tho the game is working (for now)?

JordanHanlon444 It might be worth doing anyway. If not, at least try it next time. The CC itself is fine in a new download, and that can't change if there's not a game update in between.

JordanHanlon444 Please do these two things:

    1. Post a screenshot of your Mods folder, including the full file path at the top of the folder.
    2. Use the instructions at the very end of How to Use Mods and CC to create a text file of your mods. Attach that to your reply (there's a paperclip symbol for that).
  • I also just noticed that I had a few of kiarasims career mods accidentally in my buildmode folder, and that my lot51 core wasn't up to date so I removed and updated those and it's still not loaded

JordanHanlon444 Let's run you a clean folder test:

    1. Drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop and rename it.
    2. Run a Game Repair in the EA App. (If you use Steam, the equivalent is Verify Integrity.)
    3. Launch Sims 4. You should get no list of mods on launch, and you should have no option to load a previous save. Reset your Options.
    4. Start with New to test if your issue recurs in a new game.

Then tell me if that works.

If it did work, do this:

    1. Exit and copy files out of your old Saves folder into the new Saves folder. Important: Don't just copy the old folder! You want to use the newly created folders.
    2. Launch Sims 4 and test in your regular save.

Then tell me if that works.

  • JordanHanlon444 Also, please rename the folders inside Mods to not also say "Mods" or "mods" in the folder name.

18+ mods, including for violence, aren't supported here, so there are things I can't help you with.
