Unable to select/play household

So I've had the sims 4 for a while, and there's one save file that I consistently play on. I had a main family that branched off into their own households, that I swap between supervising. I haven't played the game for a few weeks so when I opened it yesterday I was prompted to update. After this update I have not been able to access any my households. My game will get to to the select household menu, I click on the one that I want to play, I see the loading screen, and then it goes right back to the select household/world menu. So I exit the game/EA app, wait a few minutes, and try again. The same thing happens. It's been two days like this and I'm not sure what to do.
