Wanting to download cc but I don’t know where to start or how etc

The guide is a little old so it is missing a step. You will need to go into the game to enable CC. To do this click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the main menu. This will open the Options Menu. Click on Game Options, Other, and then tick the box next to Enable Custom Content and Mods. If you are going to be playing with Mods you will also need to tick the box to Enable Script Mods. To save these changes you will need to exit the game. It is important to note that you will need to repeat these steps after every game patch as Maxis will disable all CC and Mods.

A great place to start for CC is Lana's CC Finds. They are a huge archive of CC sites and have everything cataloged in an easy to use format. They also add new content every day. http://sssvitlans.tumblr.com/sims4cc

Most CC is safe to download if you have antivirus software. There are a few creators who put their CC behind adware like Adfly and Shorte.st, be careful to close all pop-up ads and never click on bait traps saying that you need software or that Microsoft needs to be contacted. These are scams that may contain viruses. Just click the X in the top right corner to get out of them. To use Adfly and Shorte.st wait for the 5 seconds on the countdown in the right hand corner then click on Skip This Ad. The download page should then be generated.

The Sims Resource is a massive archive of Maxis CC and they never use Adfly or Shorte.st:

Awesome, I’ll have to look into everything. I have cc on sims 3 for horse stuff like a door and hay shavings for stalls and a horse trailer but I got those from the sims store. I’m hoping I can find safe pet cc for my games...

I have a question regarding mods. I have the Sims 4 and somw mods already. If I were to download my game onto a new computer would my mods transfer through Origin or would I have to save them and redownload them? My sister has the base game and I have some expansion packs she would really like but I jave the WickedWhims mod and I really don't think she would like it, considering she has younng kids playing the game as well. If she were to download the games off my origin would it transfer my mods with it?

Your mods won’t transfer through Origin onto the new computer, nor will your save games, items in your library or your screenhots.
This explains how to transfer your items onto a new computer. I wrote it on another thread :)

Your sims 4 game is linked to your origin account. When you get your new computer, download and install Origin onto it. Then log into origin on your new computer using the same account that you used to register the game and packs on the old computer , then click on the Games Library section, click on the sims 4 picture, then download/install it there. Then click the extra content and packs buttons that are half way down the page. They will shows you what game packs, stuff packs and eps you own. You can then download/install them there.

Make a copy of your sims 4 folder on your old computer that is in Documents > Electronic Arts > ( then The Sims 4 folder is there ) and place it on an external drive.
Then after installing the sims 4 game onto the new computer, play it once to generate a new sims 4 folder.
In your sims 4 folder are your saves folder ( contains your save games) and the tray folder ( which contains your lots and households that you have uploaded to your library or have downloaded from the community gallery ) Replace the saves, tray, mods, custom music and screenshots folders that are in the new sims 4 folder with the same folders that are in the sims 4 folder on your external drive. You will then have your old save games and creations etc on your new computer

Your sister would also need to be logged into your origin account when playing, and accounts are meant not to be shared, unless you all live in the same home and it is a family of simmers.

A bit of a stretch here, but can anyone help me get a working WinRAR file opener thing? (I'm sorry if this made you cringe) Everyone that I've downloaded or tried has not worked at all. I had to reset my computer at one point and it deleted what I was using at the time. I'd really appreciate the help since I have been fighting this thing for about a month now, ever since I updated and bought about 4 packs. I'm so close to just saying screw it and deleting the game. Please help. Thank you for your time.

I prefer 7-Zip, it opens all compressed files including Winrar. https://www.7-zip.org/ Just right click on the file and choose 7-Zip then extract here. I usually extract to my downloads folder then move the files to my Mods folder so I can sort the CC.

Files ending with .package do not need to be opened they can go directly into your Mods folder. Only files ending in .rar or .zip need to be extracted.

Bananas_45 has given some great tips! In regards to where to find awesome CC a lot of creators are on tumblr or wordpress. What I also like to use is CC Find websites, bananas already mentioned Lana CC finds but you should also check out Sims4Updates.net and also mmfinds.tumblr.com is another one of my favs!

If you plan on getting a lot of cc or using a lot of mods, I highly recommend Raxdiam's Mod Manager for package files. While I second the recommendation to use 7-zip (frankly a lot of modders use 7-zip to compress, extract, and manage files they're working with in the first place), if you're only using cc and .package files then Mod Manager will automatically extract those files (it does not work however for the new ts4script files so you would still have to extract and put those into your mods folder manually).
As far as sites for finding cc, both thesimsresource.com and modthesims.info (where you can find the formerly mentioned Mod Manager) are still good places to start looking, along with the other suggestions here. A lot of times if you find a particular cc-creator whose work you like on larger resource sites you can google their username to find them on tumblr, wordpress, etc., where you can see more of what they have to offer. Tumblr itself is a pretty big go-to area for cc creators, so you may even try just searching for a few keywords there and see what you can find going down the rabbit-hole (same with Pinterest).
