Hi,
so this will be like the third time I’ve posted on this thread and I think this thread shows that controls aren’t liked as each time I come on I see the list of complaints getting longer and longer.
Anyway I’m here as to review the controls from how I’ve seen a new console sim player handle them. Now for some background info she’s always played as a pc simmer for such sims games as sims 3 & sims 3 cats and dogs expansion pack (which might I add had playable animals and horses which is so much more than what we get on sims 4 now) she downloaded the free sims 4 on console and straight away within the first few hours of playing she rang me for help to teach her what buttons to push to do stuff. Clearly the new sim helper doesn’t help enough. I had to very quickly explain to her that I’m still learning them myself but would do my best to teach her how to resize and to move an object up and down and much more alongside.
We get to a point where she feels somewhat comfortable using the new controls and so I ask her what does it feel like having the build mode tool bar up permanently, she tells me she hasn’t really got an issue with it. I finally established why the other day. Her tv is massive and I mean massive. So for someone like me who has a decent sized tv and is used to the old controls it’s very difficult to see with the build mode tool bar open at the bottom and to learn the new controls (not counting the fact I’m a build mode lover and like to go into as much detail as I can even in small spaces which has now become nearly impossible to work with). But for someone new because she hadn’t known it before she’s not bothered. Which is why I strongly support the idea of being able to turn the new controls on and off so long time sim players are able to play with just as much fun as new sim players.
Her biggest problem is the cursor and the fact it can’t decided how it’s going to toggle on some of her build mode plays. I’ve known her have to come out of the game completely and go back in for her to fix it. She’s also had some issues with using the cheats. Not because she doesn’t know how to use them but because they simply refuse to work at all times.
One last minor issue the new sim player does have is she sees all this content on Tik Tok of PC sim players using mods that clearly make the game even more fun and she wants to use it on her console and can’t, she doesn’t want to download sims 4 onto her laptop. Maybe instead of messing with controls the Sims Creators could have worked on making things fair for console players by allowing them some way to access mods. I mean Cities Skyline and Farming Simulator have specialised areas to house mods for players where you can turn them off and on, download them and look at them and they do this for their PC players and Console players. Why can’t the sims 4 console? It would make console players a lot happier because it would give them the same benefits as a PC player. Fix the new controls and give us something better in return. I know it’s not simple to do but it isn’t impossible surely?
