“Origin” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

Hey Ya'll,

I have been playing sims for roughly 6 months now and love the game. Recently, my game crashed and I couldn't log in anymore to origin. I checked different answers to previous players' problems and tried to reinstall origin since I couldn't even get into it to restart. So..... after lots and lots of hard work, I downloaded origin onto my mac.

HERE'S THE CATCH:

Everything went well until origin kept crashing and reloading automatically saying it needed to update. After like FOREVER I found a small link on the bottom that said something like "to skip updating and play click here:" so I clicked there. I got really excited and happy because I thought that would be the end of my troubles but it turns out I am right back where I started. I tried to login but it did the same thing:

I put in my correct username and password and then clicked login but it loaded and then went back to the login screen as before. At first, I thought I must have mistyped it but it doesn't say incorrect username or password or anything so then I thought it was a bug and redid it AGAIN!

I was like, "how could this get any worse?" guess what? it got worse!

Anyway, I downloaded origin again and then it was like "“Origin” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software." so that is where I am at now and I am really confused. Can someone help?

Thanks!!

Happy Gaming! (Even if I haven't been able to get on in A WHOLE MONTH!) AHHHHHH! 😢🥺

  • @Blue5Mermaid I can't speak to any of the original problem you're having. For the new problem, that is Apple's Gatekeeper needing some guidance from you. You can allow Origin to run by right-clicking (or control+click) on the Origin icon to get the contextual menu and selecting "Open." Once you do this you'll get the same prompt as before, but it will now also have an "Open" button. Once you click this Origin will no longer be quarantined by macOS and will launch as expected. You will likely also be prompted to allow Origin "Full Disk Access." This is necessary so that Origin can install games and files in various locations.

If this fixes your original problem as well, then once you install the Sims 4 updates and launch it you will likely ALSO be promtped to allow The Sims 4 to have access to your Documents directory. You should grant this permission so that The Sims 4 can create/read its saves/preferences folder in your Documents directory.
