My Sims 4 base game keeps crashing after doing a full folder reset , at random (after 1 min-1 hr of play) but always when I try to purchase the automatic self cleaning litter box. Game fully freezes, can't move cursor or zoom in/out and have to force quit to use my computer.
At this point I don't even care about restoring my saves (though would if possible, of course), I just want my base game to work again - please help.

Have you checked the bug forum to see if there's a report on the litter box? Do you get crashing at any other time or just when trying to place that specific litter box?

Please try a completely clean Sims 4 folder - [READ FIRST] Sims 4 - Mac Help, Guides and Troubleshooting | EA Forums - 10887329 no need to waste time uninstalling and reisntalling the game. You need to test a completely clean folder to discount your Mods being the issue.
TY for the tip, I just checked and not seeing anything on the bug forum around placing the litter box. The game crashes randomly (sometimes in Buy Mode, sometimes in game play, while zooming out, while just sitting there, etc) but always when I try to place the litter box - not sure what's up with that. Game will crash both with a litter box in my home and without.
Thanks. Is it only on one particular lot? Or does it happen on other lots and in multiple saves? If you upload your lot to a file sharing site and PM me the link I'm happy to test it in my game :)
Appreciate it! Unfortunately it's happening in multiple different lots and multiple different saves, after folder refreshes, etc. Let me know if still helpful to share, but think this may run deep.
Yep always helps because if it works fine in my game then we know it could potentially be an issue on your Mac or in your game installation. If it happens for me too, and I can test on a few different Mac setups, then it's a bigger problem.
Or it could just be that your saves have somehow become corrupted :(
