cursor calibration issues!

hi! i'm having some trouble with my cursor calibration when i open the game-- the cursor wont highlight buttons until i'm hovering a hair below the button i want to click; makes it tricky to actually play the game. i poked around online and i suspect it has something to do with the graphical settings, but the resolution in the settings matches the resolution of my computer. the one thing that doesnt seem quite right is that even when i opt to play in fullscreen mode, i'm still playing in a window, albeit a larger one than when i try to play in windowed mode (which screws the mouse calibration massively-- makes it almost impossible to figure out where i need to click to hit the right buttons, lol). i imagine this is the issue-- the game thinks i'm playing in fullscreen, when really i'm just playing in a very large window (windowed fullscreen? i saw this term thrown around when i was trying to figure out how to solve the problem but it wasn't an option for me to select in graphics settings.) i messed around with the controls up in the top bar of my screen to try to go into fullscreen mode but all it seemed to do was toggle me between windowed fullscreen and a smaller window. i'm almost certain that getting my game back into regular fullscreen would solve this issue, i just cant seem to figure out how to do it. 

i'm on a 2020 13-inch macbook pro running big sur version 11.1; M1 chip; display is a 13.3-inch built-in retina display with 2560x1600 resolution. attached is a screenshot of what my settings look like in-game (note the control bar and window controls on top of the screen)-- if i want to highlight the 'apply changes' button, i have to put my cursor around the start of where it lists the version under the settings window. calibration isnt affected horizontally, just vertically as far as i can tell. 

anyway, as we can see by the screenshot it's 4:00 in the morning over here, so i'm going to head to bed, but i'll get back to this thread in the morning to try out yr suggestions/give any more information u might need. thanks so much!!
