Expansion pack content not working
Hiya,
I use a Mac and Origin to play the Sims 4.
I previously haven't had any issues with the game and have several expansion packs (University, Get To Work, Eco Lifestyle, City Living, Get Famous). I hadn't played the game for a few weeks and so when I started up, I had to update both the game and Origin.
Since then, I've been unable to see any content related to my expansion packs. CAS content shows up as red and white checkerboards. Some items show up in Build mode but say there is no 'footprint resource' when I try to place them. I can't travel to any community lots, and many have their names missing. When someone invited me to a lot, I could travel there but the whole screen was white.
I've repaired the game multiple times. Deleted all of my mods and CC (didn't have many anyway). Uninstalled and reinstalled Origin and the game and expansion packs. Reset Origin using the Reset Origin app. Deleted the Electronic Arts folder in my Documents and let the game create a new one. I've changed the permission settings of all of the Packs folders to ‘Read & Write’ (was originally was Read) and given Origin full disk access in System Preferences.
Some other info:
- I recently let my Documents be synced with iCloud, which meant my Electronic Arts folder was in the cloud. I originally thought this was the issue (eg, the content was in the cloud but hadn't been downloaded properly) but I've since unsynced it and it hasn't fixed (and I've deleted this folder and let the game create a new one, which hasn't fixed it either).
- I play my game from an external hard drive as I don't usually have space on my Mac. However during troubleshooting I moved the game (and Packs) from my hard drive to my Mac and the result was the same.
If anyone has any further suggestions, please let me know ☹️
All it takes is one out of date or corrupted Mod or CC to break the game, it doesn't matter how stuffed your Mods folder is.
Repair the game then follow these steps to launch a new clean game and try to narrow down the issue - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612394#M163
Ultimately you may need to uninstall and reinstall again. Your problems may also be a completely corrupted installation - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/-Game-Data-Incomplete-grey-llamas-red-and-white-sims-broken/td-p/9341303
