Force quit after business & hobbies

I purchased the new expansion pack, business & hobbies, the day after release. Ever since then, I have to force quit the game multiple times. It gets stuck on loading screen, or when in build mode, etc. No rhyme or reason to it, but I have noticed it happens every time i try to open a specific residential/small business lot. No cc/mods. Crash reports are also not getting uploaded into my documents because I've had to manually quit every time.

  • I'm having the same issue but mine doesn't completely freeze immediately, I can still see the mouse moving. Before it fully freezes if I press the Open Mission Control button and click on the desktop and then click back into the game I can keep playing but it keeps freezing again and again. I tested with a clean game and it does the same thing. I deleted the localthumbcache.package file, also didn't resolve. I don't see any other forum posts related to this, couldn't find anything helpful to fix this.

mattikinz did you also follow the link in my previous post to start with a clean Sims 4 folder? Asking because you reference a "clean game" but then state you deleted the localthumbcache file which wouldn't have been necessary if you had started with a new Sims 4 folder.

Yes I followed the steps from the link you commented and it changed nothing. So I found similar forum posts on freezing issues that suggested steps that your link listed further down for testing specific data files, so I tried that too just in case, despite recognizing that they had all been recreated in the new clean file.

    Ok thanks for clarifying.

Which model Mac do you have? Can you launch the game in windowed mode, in a small window, and have Activity Monitor open at the same time. When it starts to freeze can you look at the memory used and look for any spikes after you click to the desktop then back to the game.

This is on a macbook pro intel. Interestingly it doesn't happen in windowed mode. I immediately opened mission control and hopped over to activity monitor and all the numbers are the same as when it's in windowed mode.

Need more info than that - specific model, year, CPU, GPU, RAM, macOS

There are often reports of crashing happening in fullscreen but not windowed mode, they seem to come and go with nothing confirmed as to the cause. I do sometimes wonder whether it's the computer struggling to run the game on effectively a second desktop.

Can you not go via Mission Control but have the game window open and Activity Monitor and watch the activity when you're playing. You can resize the game window by clicking a corner and dragging. Even though you're not getting the freezing in windowed mode it would be interesting to look at memory usage whilst playing.

Same thing is happening to me. I'm getting fed up and will probably just end up asking for a refund.
