Game appears to have been wiped after cancelling update progress :'(

Please, I hope someone can help me. I was going to do the update today (march 14th), but then decided I would wait until this evening to update and clicked 'cancel' to cancel the update (for now). The update had only been going for a few seconds. 

It gave me a warning that I'd have to start over, but I thought that meant start THE UPDATE over! However, now after opening the game the picture of my recent Sim on the Resume button is whited-out (no picture of them). When I select Load Game/the Load button I can still see all my save files, but when I open them it wants me to choose a season like at the very beginning!

I pressed exit out for now, since I don't want to mess anything further. 

I'm so scared I won't be able to play and will have lost my 3+ years of progress. I've never cancelled an update before and will be devastated if my mistake has ruined everything. 

Does anyone know about this issue and if there is a fix for it? Thank you for reading :')
