Re: [Info] The Sims 4 macOS Catalina Troubleshooting

This worked for me!!!  I had tried everything from doing a repair on Origin to uninstalling and reinstalling Sims 4 and nothing worked.  I even took out my save files and mod files to no avail.  Taking out the UserData lock worked and Sims 4 booted up immediately after!

  • @lilisz9501 I am not sure.. It took me hours to find an option that finally worked that by the time I got it running I needed to get some sleep. I'll play it here in a few and see how that works and will let you know.

@mumblingmayhem ok thank you 🙂 this solution also worked for me but unfortunately i can not save the game so it starts from the beginning every time i open the game
  • @lilisz9501 As what you said, it wouldn't recognize any saves and wanted me to start from scratch each time I opened up the game.

So here is what I did:

    1. I duplicated my SAVES and MODS folders and put them on my desktop for easy access.

    2. I uninstalled SIMS 4 through Origin.

    3. I then went into my documents and dragged my ELECTRONIC ARTS folder to the trash (only do this once you know your SAVES AND MODS are safe where you can get to them).

    4. I reinstalled SIMS 4.

    5. I then opened up the game so it would make a new ELECTRONIC ARTS folder in my documents. Then I closed the game.

    6. I opened up the new EA folder and then moved all my Saves and Mods from the duplicate folders on my desktop into their respectful folders in the EA folder.

    7. Started up the game and everything seemed to be in working order, all my previous game saves were there, ect. . You do NOT need to remove the USERDATA lock folder that is now there since it is fresh and new.

Everything seems to now be working normally, and I can save my game, ect.
  • @lilisz9501 I closed out of my game for awhile and shut my laptop down. When I rebooted and went to play again, I got the same friggen error. I'm at a loss now.

Im getting the sims is already running error for the sims 4 it started when updated my mac to mac os Catalina. yes I reinstalled it I even did it for the origin application but didn't work.

IM using a 2017 MacBook pro. core i5, 8gb, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536 MB.

  • UPDATE

I deleted the EA folder then lunched the sims 4 and it worked but some of the graphics are messed up. Also after a while, the error keeps coming back. Is there a permanent solution

  • The same thing happened to me, I tried everything, and nothing worked. Another person told me to delete my "Electronic Arts" folder, so I did so. Now it runs perfectly, even though I've lost some of my saves and so on.
