Correct, and the full stop at the beginning of the file name. The game will only attempt to load save files in the format:
Slot_XXXXXXXX.save
Where the X's are a serious of numbers and letters. If the filename has ver in the it it is a backup. Help with save files here https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2014/09/backups/
