Sims 3 downloaded and installed on Mac, but it says 'No disc found, please insert disc to proceed'

I bought the Sims 3 game from the EA website and downloaded it. I installed origin and the game onto my computer (Macbook Pro). The launch screen will come up but when i click on the play button i recieve the following error.

Disc Authentication Failure

No game disc found. Please insert the game disc before proceeding

I downloaded the game from the website so I don't have any disc. I tried to redeem product code, but it says that my code has already been redeemed, so I must have already done that during the installation process. I've seen that people were having this issue previously in December of 2013, but there was no solution listed. Does anyone have a way to fix this problem?

    Hi

Does your Macbook have a disc-drive? If so, have you ever had the disc version of the game installed or have you only ever used Origin to download the digital version?

This seems to be happening to increasing numbers of players so I will try to find out more and update you if I learn anything new.

In the meantime the only suggestion I have is to try a clean uninstall and reinstall. See the instructions below for further details on the best way to do this.

    Clean uninstall/reinstall instructions

When you uninstall TS3 games on your Mac using the uninstaller, the game leaves behind stray files and isn't completely removed from your computer. These files may conflict with future installations. It is best to completely remove them. BluebellFlora's website provides a guide on how to do this:

    http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/

After cleanly uninstalling, install the base game and patch it up to date. If you cannot update via the Launcher, download and apply the latest cumulative manual patch (called the superpatch) for Mac.

Check that your game works properly. Then install any EPs and SPs that you own, in order of release date.

To download and install games through Origin

Download and install the Origin client for Mac and make sure it is up-to-date. If you already have Origin on your Mac but are having problems with downloading or installing games, delete the client and download a new copy (this sometimes fixes issues with downloading). The latest version can be downloaded from here: http://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download

Additional advice on how to download games (thank you Tremayne for this tip):
When downloading from Origin, do NOT use the first install icon. Move your cursor over the game cover and click on the information (letter i) and then click on the install button from there. For some reason, downloads from Origin frequently become corrupted. Using the i reduces the chance of your download being corrupted. If you have already been unfortunate and have a corrupted download, then it is important to remove all traces of this before trying again, by doing a thorough, clean uninstallation first.

Are you running anti-virus software or any clean-up applications? If so, disable these, as they might be deleting files that Origin needs. A fast, stable internet connection will also help you.

  • I've had pretty much the same problem. it will let me go onto the loading screen to choose my game, but it will then proceed to say, 'no game disc found, please insert a disc to proceed.'

I'm certain that it is a valid copy of the sims 3 as i bought it from an authorised games store. it has had many glitches in the past but none that have disconnected me from the game. Anyone had this issue before?
