Sims 4 is suddenly really laggy on my MacBook Air M2

I've been playing Sims 4 on my MacBook for a while now and have never had a problem. Game always ran smoothly. Around 2 weeks ago my game started lagging a lot and has been doing so ever since. Every time I try loading a save it takes years, and it does the same when I try saving and exiting the game. The actual gameplay is so laggy that I sometimes can't even move my camera. I play with mods and CCs and I've checked numerous times if some are outdated or colliding with each other, but it all checks out. I've tried lowering all of my graphics but it doesn't help at all. I saw someone say that enabling retina display could potentially fix the issue, but no luck. I don't really think storage is the problem either. It was completely fine up until 2 weeks ago and my storage capacity hasn't really changed. I'm not the most tech savvy person out there, so I'm really hoping someone else knows how to fix this. The game is barely playable.

How much storage space is available on your Mac?

Where is your Sims 4 game installed?

Where is your Sims 4 folder located that contains your saves etc?

What is the size of your saves folder?

What is the size of your Mods folder?

When you try a completely Mod free game does it still happen?

If you try a completely new clean game, as described here, is it still laggy?
