Sims 4 on Mac

I am running on a 2020 Intel i3-based MacBook Air running macOS 12.4. My game sometimes crashes, although not too frequently.

I believe the issue for me is strictly performance-related, however these may help:

I tend to follow these steps that prevent around 90% of crashes:

  • Use your laptop (if you're using one) on a flat surface that doesn't prevent heat from being released (like on a desk, table, lapdesk, etc. rather than on your lap, couch, etc.)
  • Make sure your graphic settings aren't on a setting that may impact your processor (low - medium graphics)
  • Possibly (although I haven't needed to) buy a cooling pad for your computer (they cost around $25)
  • Make sure you aren't using the garage door mural item from the City Living expansion pack, that has been known to crash games and corrupt saves.
  • Make sure you aren't overloading your computer/save with Residential Rentals from For Rent (a few is fine, and I haven't found this issue, but too many can impact performance and crashing.)
  • Crashes can sometimes stem from lots loaded with tons of items (possibly use less when building and/or download lots with less items from the gallery.)
  • On your computer, try to only run the EA App and The Sims 4 while playing the game to limit CPU usage from other apps.

I hope this helps!

I've split your posts out of the ARM equipped troubleshooting thread you posted in. It is collecting information for a known issue on those specific model Macs that started after the major graphics update 14 January patch. Your Intel Mac is not affected. I had to give your post a title so if you don't like the one I put please feel free to change it 🙂
