Sims Medieval Won't Launch on Mac

I just purchased and installed Sims Medieval Limited Edition for the Mac. When I try to launch the game, I get a message asking if I want to download an update. I click on "Cancel." I then get the game logo and a white box with the message:

The request timed out. (-1001)

Am I doing something wrong? I am using a 2.5Ghz Mac, Intel Core i5, Operating System Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Thanks for your assistance.

    Even if it doesn't need the patch, I still can't play it.

    What exactly is happening? Can you open the game at all? What kind of error message are you getting when you try to open it? Did you try anything mentioned in this thread as a solution? And please give us the specs of your Mac which are found under the black Apple Logo in the upper left hand corner. Do not include the serial number.

    I just bought this game off of origin like an hour ago, it still is not working. Why are you still selling a game that doesn't work???
