Uninstall the game in Origin
Run the Origin reset tool https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/
Then trash the Origin app from your Applications folder
Download and install Origin then the game
Sorry but it doesn't work, I don't think I can play this game
I am unable to start the game. I was able to download Origin with no problems, as well as download the sims 4. Once I tried to start the game through the origin app it pops up a message stating:
Unable to start:
Unable to start due to missing game data. Please download The Sims 4 Legacy Edition from Origin.

As of 2022 they have discontinued Legacy edition. I have all of the requirements needed to download the game and should be able to play, but unable to.
My current version of MacOS is Catalina version 10.15.7
Please help!! I have tried following the previous threads and they are all outdated. I haven't seen a current thread with help relating to this problem.
Threads aren't necessarily outdated, they just don't help you. Merged your post into a thread on the same issue.
