    Back in November 2022 EA announced the Legacy Edition of Sims 4 would be officially sunset and no longer available. Users were however still able to play it if it was already installed on their Mac. As of the 18 April 2023 game patch, 1.97.42.1230, it appears the Legacy Edition will no longer run at all on non-Metal supported Macs. If you have an unsupported Mac listed in the FAQ on page 1 (above this solution) your only option to play The Sims 4 is to install the game on a Metal supported Mac.

I can't seem to open The Sims 4 anymore even after having the Legacy Edition installed on my Mac. After having dowloaded the latest patch (Nov 12th) and opening The Sims in Origin I got an error message telling me there was an initialization error and told me to download the Legacy version of the game from Origin. After downloading and installing it I tried opening the game again but still got the same error message (without asking me to download Legacy). I honestly don't know what I am doing wrong and I'd appreciate any tips on what I could/should do to play my game again.

    @Arekkino I'm confused, you downloaded the Legacy Edition, then got an error about requiring Legacy Edition, except not asking you to download Legacy Edition?

    What is the actual error you see?

      @dzm06 I opened my Origin client and saw that there was an update available for The Sims 4, I downloaded it as normal and then attempted to start up the game resulting in a pop up window telling me about an initialization error saying I need to download the Legacy Edition from Origin. I did a quick search, found it, downloaded it, and then tried opening the game again, still with the same error message (only this time it didn't say I have to get the Legacy Edition because I had it by then)

        I have the same problem too. I tryed everything, but it didn't work.

    @Arekkino I had an issue after downloading the legacy edition today. I was able to start the game up but none of my previous saved games are there when I open it it’s like I never played before

      @FionaGracePruitt Have you granted permission for The Sims 4 to have access to the Documents directory?

    I have exactly the same problem. I couldn't play Sims 4 anymore so I downloaded the Sims 4 Legacy Edition for Mac, and the same error message appears. 

    I have Macbook Pro, OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.15, 15-inch, Late 2008. I have read that the Legacy Edition should work for older Mac's so I can't get my head around what's wrong.

    I have the same problem but I haven't bought the legacy edition kinda scared to buy it and still not be able to play.

    @Arekkino I have the exact problem right now (11/20) and can't open the game I have to done the exact thing that they have asked me to when I did some research but it just wont work.

    me too…… I am so frustrated. I even ordered a new flipping gaming laptop and mine should have never stopped working… so pissed and i have been researching my * off and I can't figure it out for the life of me…..
