Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running - Mac only

It's a permissions error for your Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts. Check the game has access to the Documents folder in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files & Folders. See accepted solution on page 1 for further info.
