Black screen

My game has been unplayable since the home screen update and I was wondering if anyone can help me.

When I would open the game the screen would go black and I would have to force restart my whole computer and then I would give up. I took out my mods and repaired the game multiple times over a few months.
More recently the game has opened fine but then an abundance of pop ups appear from EA and when I press the close button the screen goes black every time.

Edit - On the odd occasion no pop ups happen and I click resume game the screen goes black.

has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any ideas to fix this issue?

thanks

  • sarah_symcox  Sorry for the late reply; I've been away from the forums for a while.

If you still need help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • sarah_symcox  Your dxdiag lists a number of system errors, but nothing Sims 4-related, at least not directly.  So please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Having said that, I'm not sure whether your computer's graphics card and driver are new enough to support Sims 4, at least not in DirectX 11 mode.  Nvidia doesn't offer a newer driver for your GPU, unfortunately, but you can try switching to DX9 mode.  Open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx9 to the command line box.

If you still can't play, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.
