Cannot launch Sims 4

From 5/2/25, I have been unable to get into my game on my PC (which is fairly new and has all the necessary specs to run the app.) The launch begins, runs through about 2 seconds of spinning plumbobs and wot not, then just blips back to the start.

I have repaired, unistalled, and reinstalled the app. I've cleared the cache, tried loading with mods (custom content) disabled. The result is the same whether I'm going online or off. It simply won't launch the game.

The last time I tried to uninstall, the EA app wasn't even showing on the apps list. (Oddly, Sims 4, Paranormal, and Snowy Escape were listed (weird) but I'm afraid to uninstall them (I own other packed, btw) because knowing EA those packs will disappear forever from my catalog even if this stupid bug is resolved. And I can't uninstall from the pin on the desktop, either, because trying that just takes me into my listing of apps and there's no EA app there.

I find myself wishing some of the people who make Sims content for money will have the same problem; maybe then it would get some attention.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

  • Having the same problem on my PC. Have done all the things, including uninstalling and reinstalling. Doesn't matter if I try to go online or off, the game launches for about two seconds then goes right back to the start screen.  It worked fine two days ago and started acting up yesterday. It's not my PC, connection, or custom content. Again, I tried all the things. Frustrating doesn't begin to cover it.

  • moviegrl17  Please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  If it copies instead of moving, or you get an error when trying to move it, stop here and let me know.

Otherwise, when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

    A) Thanks for the very clear instructions, puzzleaddict.  I moved the folder, but still couldn't get in.  The attached doesn't look very helpful to me, but if you can figure it out, I'll be grateful.
