Can't get past initial load screen

My game starts up but immediately the screen goes blank and won't let me exit.  I have to turn the computer off and turn it back on to exit.

Troubleshoot tries:

I have tried to remove the saves (in case one was broken), expanded my one drive, repaired the game.  Restarted the game 7 times (and hours apart). Nothing works.

Need help!!!!

  • Aspwriter1394  Try pausing OneDrive syncing instead.  You can do so by clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen, or in the Tray; click the ^ icon to open the Tray.

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I had to remove the Sims4 from the folder and it loaded up just fine.  Slower but at least it loaded.  I didn't save anything,  but how do I get past not saving anything and what about my previous saves? Will I be able to play with them or can I not use them anymore?

  • Aspwriter1394  Is Sims 4 using a folder inside OneDrive?  Here's how to check:

The reason I ask is because it would be best to deal with this now, before OneDrive can interfere with the other troubleshooting steps.

To answer your question, you do not need to delete your saves, and in fact saves are very unlikely to prevent the game from loading so early in the process.  This kind of issue is usually mod-related, although it can be any of a number of different system issues.  Point is, keep your saves, and let's deal with OneDrive if necessary, then go from there.
