Solved

Constant flashing and lag spikes.

recently redownloaded the sims on my new pc and had this happen. it seems to be non existent when you start the game, and gradually gets worse as you play. the attachment below was around 15 minutes into gameplay.

i tried with cc, without cc, with dlcs, without dlcs, tried changing every single graphics setting multiple times, even tried uninstalling and reinstalling... and nothing. i haven't been able to find a single fix, or a single thing that makes it less flashy or laggy.

I haven't had anything like this happen with any other games ive played, so im really confused on what the cause for this could be.

EDIT: i ran ts4 to record whats happening once again (since the lag spikes stopped), and my entire pc turned off by itself and now wont show anything on my monitor. so i think its fair to say its a gpu issue. my usb hub also stopped working yesterday. i think this is just a case of my entire pc failing to function.

  • it was a gpu problem. got my pc back today and nothing seems to be happening! finally a calm sims experience lol. thank you all for helping out! i got a 1070ti (best he had on hand) and a new case as well :)

sproutedpup I just watched the video and this is very similar to what my rx580 was doing sometimes. At the time I thought it was lightning but shortly after the card failed completely. Only lasted 5 months ;(

  • sproutedpup  Clean-uninstalling the graphics driver would have wiped your previous settings, so it's not a surprise that this particular setting would have reverted.

Do you have access to another graphics card you could test with?  I'm not saying that your current GPU is definitely faulty, only that it's enough of a possibility at this point to justify the work to swap out the card.  If you can borrow one from a friend or family member, please do so and see how the game runs.

For an Nvidia GPU (or an Intel one if you know anyone that has one), you'd need to DDU the AMD driver before removing the card, remove it and install the new one, and then install the proper driver yourself, all with your computer offline.  So download the correct driver first so that you don't have to go back online.

just tried this, and its still happening. it does seem to have helped with the lag aspect, but the screen is still flashing and glitching constantly.

  • sproutedpup you could try turning off anti lag in your adrenalin settings the 580 doesn't like it. and it can cause lag and weird things to happen.

  • sproutedpup  Please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of your graphics driver, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

If that doesn't help, switch from windowed to fullscreen mode, or vice versa, restarting the game before testing in the other mode.

Please also keep all other apps closed while testing.  Don't open anything other than the EA App and Sims 4 once you restart after reinstalling the graphics driver, at least not until you've had a look at the game.

  • sproutedpup  Please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
