DirectX 9 or 11

I got a new PC, and can play with D11. But now  I find that numerous of my favorite CC wallpapers (and other CC) no longer works - it apprears with the ?-mark red/blue image. I suspect this has to do with DirectX, and although I started replacing the outdated CC, I now wonder if I should rather check the "use DirectX 9" option.

What exactly is the difference between D9 and D11?

I read that a multi core processor (?) works better with D11, but how essential is that for a game like TS4? It's still a less advanced game regarding graphics and req. specs, right? I think light/shadow might be affected, but how muchof that will I notice in TS4? I shuld add that I was happy enough with graphics on my old Win8.1 computer, so I'm not hunting marginal improvements affecting just one game feature etc.

Hoping for some input before I choose between D9 and D11... :)

  • Simmerville  DirectX 11 mode is supposed to provide performance improvements, not necessarily graphical improvements, at least not directly.  I suppose for a computer that's struggling to run the game on ultra in DX9 mode, DX11 mode might make the game look better, but that's not really the goal.  There are some small differences, but if for example you're fine with shadows being a bit different in one mode, you might not care either way.  So use whatever you want.

You can use Sims4Studio to batch fix cc for DX11 mode.  I don't know that it works with all types of cc, but it does help with a lot of it.

Aha, thanks! And I did not know about fixing in Studio (or, I guess I had forgotten), will check that out. I was first surprised that a flat item like wallpapers could be affected, but I guess the creator might have used a shiny wallpaper as default, so there might be hidden features affected by D11, although they are not active for the cc.
