EA app error screen w/ red X

I haven't been able to play my Sims 4 for about 2mnths now. My initial error was "Please reinstall game. Error with installation" every time I went to launch the Sims 4 game from the EA app or directly from the game's shortcut link. I updated my computer graphics w/ NVIDIA from a prior forum I read. Now I cannot access the EA app at all. Every time, I select the EA app it'll pop up a windows screen with a red X and the ok button to select (attached)

I have uninstalled / reinstalled both the EA app and Sims 4 game over 20x. I removed all MODS, C/C, and saves. I used the Revo uninstaller (free version) from prior forums too. Nothing is working!

Please help! I just want to play my game and new DC purchased. I do have a Windows 7.  TIA!

  • Zlringer94  Your dxdiag is missing some information that makes me wonder whether the graphics driver is installed properly.  But first, please run the system file checker.  Click Windows key-X and choose "Command Prompt (Administrator)," NOT the regular Command Prompt; it has to be the Admin version.  Copy and paste this command, and enter:

    sfc /scannow

The scan will take some time; please post the result here.

Next, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Finally, uninstall the EA App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).  Use the Intensive scanning method, and restart your computer before reinstalling the App.

If none of this helps, please post a new dxdiag.  Please also look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to open the EA App.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.  If you still don't see anything, please post all true errors (not updates or warnings) from after you ran sfc.

  • Zlringer94  Are you still seeing the issue with the EA App, or is the only current problem that Sims 4 doesn't work?  For Sims 4, try forcing the game to open in DirectX 9 mode.  If you can open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties and add -dx9 to the command line box.

If the App doesn't work, there should be a setting in Options.ini for DX9 mode.  I don't know exactly what it's called because I'm not in front of a Windows PC at the moment, but you can open the file in Notepad and search for direct , which should find the option.  Set DirectX 9 to 1 or DirectX 11 to 0, whichever you see.

I do want to mention that your computer would be fine running Windows 10, if it becomes necessary.  The EA App is supposed to run fine in Windows 7, and I believe it still does most of the time, but there may be some issues that don't really get ongoing support.  It's also worth considering, at least, because the graphics driver info in your dxdiag is still missing, even after sfc and reinstalling the driver, which suggests there might be an OS issue underlying both problems.
