Game doesn’t work with mods

avocadoes12​  Please let me know how the game runs in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Thank you for your response! In a clean folder, my game was just as laggy as it was with mods. The lowest the FPS went was 10 while running interactions like watching the TV, or in 2-3x speed. And the highest was at 28 when idle. It was still verry laggy in a clean folder. Except the main menu page and loading which was very quick. I will provide the dxdiag bellow

avocadoes12​  Most of the errors in your dxdiag are generic, but one is a crash of a graphics driver, so let's start there, specifically with a clean uninstall and reinstall of both drivers.  Here's how:

You'll need both the Intel and Nvidia drivers from 2025.  The proper order of operations is uninstall the Nvidia driver > uninstall the Intel driver > restart > reinstall the Intel driver > restart > reinstall the Nvidia driver > restart, all while your computer is offline.

If that doesn't help, please try playing with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

Please continue to test in a clean folder with no mods or cc, at least until the game is running as it should.

I uninstalled and reinstalled my drives so they are all up to date. It helped my lag just slightly. I even played in offline mode and it didn’t do anything. I’m not sure if this is just me being picky about lag (lol), or an actual issue. But it used to be very quick before the issue started. Also, when I try to exit the game, it give me a “The Sims 4 (not responding)” error, and the cursor turns into the loading circle. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the lag, though. But it’s something that is reoccurring. 

avocadoes12​  Does this happen with a new save too, and with no content from the Gallery or your own library?  I ask because an existing save might have content that causes lag, either something broken or simply too many items, or too many demanding ones.  So please test a fresh save (still with no mods or cc) if you haven't already, and try both online and offline.

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.  If the clean boot doesn't help while you're online, try offline again.

Great news, it worked! The most my FPS has gone is 38 and I’m very happy with that, and the lest it’s gone is 18. Some lag is expected of course since my computer isn’t a gaming computer, but it’s not as bad as before. Would now be a good time to slowly add mods back in? Or keep playing in a clean save to make sure the issue doesn’t arise again? No rush in responding, enjoy the holiday! 

avocadoes12​  What worked, the new save or the clean boot?  If the new save, then yes, try out your mods and cc and see what happens.

If the clean boot is what helped here, I would suggest instead that you reverse it, a few services at a time or using the 50/50 method, to see whether the problem is one particular service or just the total weight of them.  You can leave anything disabled that you know you don't use, for example most Dell apps are just bloatware and don't ever need to be running.  But some of those services you will probably want to use at some point.

Once you've figured out what's causing the issues you've been seeing, then you can start adding mods and cc to see how the game behaves.

The clean boot worked. However, after playing in it base game for a few minutes after disabling some systems (it was the load of them making my game lag, I only have enabled the necessary ones that make my computer run), it started to get slightly laggy again. Not completely, but still some spikes. Can those be fixed or should I just leave it and download a simulation lag mod?

avocadoes12​  You could try the simulation lag mod, alone, and see whether it helps.  But this could also be an issue with your computer.  While it should in theory be able to run Sims 4 fine, in practice it could be overheating and throttling its workload to protect itself.

Point is, I'd suggest installing a monitoring app like hwinfo (free, no installation required).  You can open it before you start playing, then look over the log when you want.  Open it, choose "sensors only," leave it on-screen, and you can alt-tab to it or just check the values once you close the game.  The current value may fluctuate, and will drop once you quit Sims 4, but the maximum temperatures should give you a good idea of what's happening.

Hwinfo has a lot of data that you can ignore for now.  Just look for the temperature values in the CPU and GPU categories and let me know what you find.  Anything in red is a potential problem, not necessarily an immediate danger but at least a sign that the system is throttling significantly.  Even if you don't see any red values though, I'd still like to know how high the temperatures get.

I tried a simulation mod and it didn’t help. I installed hwinfo and have provided screenshots bellow from when I’m in game vs out. Not sure if the in game versions will help but there they are. I have noticed though that ever since I got my computer in 2023, only the left fan has been working, not sure if it’s normal or something worth pointing out!
