Game launching without showing up

Hi, sorry if this is a bit of a weird issue, I'll try to explain as best I can, but let me know if the issue isn't clear.

Basically, I launch my game like normal (from my desktop, the EA app or Steam, it doesn't matter, nothing changes), I get the usual "Game preparation" window, it closes as usual and then... Nothing. The game doesn't launch, no matter how long I wait, but EA app and Steam both tell me the game is currently in session (interestingly enough, my Discord is linked to my Steam account but doesn't pick up on the game being played). The game also doesn't show up in my taskbar, and I cannot do anything to close it once it is "launched" (cannot exit EA app or move/edit/delete files either).

I've deleted the cache, tried removing my mods before "launch", tried disconneting and reconnecting my EA account in the EA app, tried to wait it out (been having this issues for over a week now) and tried restarting my PC, I'm not sure what else to try, any help would be very welcome. Thank you for your time <3

  • blue_alixir  Do you have Steam's family sharing or similar enabled?  (I think there's a separate friend-sharing option too.)  If so, please disable it and try again.

Otherwise, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • Little_Beet7  Sorry for the late reply.  Please update your Nvidia graphics driver.  Go here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

Choose GeForce, GTX 16 series (notebooks), GTX 1650, Windows 11, and download the Game Ready Driver.  Run it as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Choose the Custom (not Express) install method, and check the box to perform a clean install.  Restart your computer afterwards and before trying to play.

If that doesn't help, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of both graphics drivers, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Use the same Nvidia driver but the Intel graphics driver Asus provides for your laptop, which you can find here, under Graphics:

    https://www.asus.com/supportonly/fx506lh/helpdesk_download/

The order of operations here is uninstall the Nvidia driver > uninstall the Intel driver > restart > reinstall the Intel driver > restart > reinstall the Nvidia driver > restart, all with your computer offline.

  • Hi, I'm having the same issue. It shows "preparing the game" but nothing is happening. Tried all of the methods proposed above but nothing helps :(( Any advice?

Saw people adding dxdiag, so here is mine:

  • iliva02  To be clear, and so I don't send you down a troubleshooting rabbithole when it's not necessary, you tried moving the Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts?  And you don't have any kind of Steam sharing enabled?  That wouldn't matter if you play through the EA App, of course.

Aside from the above, please try playing with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

If that doesn't help either, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to open Sims 4.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

I tried removing it out of the folders, and no, I don't have Steam sharing enabled.

As far as I checked, offline start of the game did not work and the reliability monitor shows only one error but it's not connected to EA app or sims that happened today. That was the issue:

Besides that, nothing seems wrong. I also have mods in my game but I have checked every single one and the game still won't launch. Also just saw your answer to my other post. The antivirus I use is Norton 360.

  • iliva02  Flow.exe is part of the Conexant audio driver, so you can try killing any Conexant software in the Task Manager before launching Sims 4.  At worst, you won't have any sound, but then you can restart your computer and the software will restart too.

When you removed the Sims 4 folder from Documents > Electronic Arts, did you restore your mods and custom content at any point?  It's important to test with no mods or cc even if you're sure every single file is fine.

If the above doesn't help, please disable Norton, temporarily of course, and repair the game (again, if you have already): EA App > Sims 4 > Manage > Repair.  Then try again to play.  If this helps, set exceptions in Norton for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64, or the entire Bin folder they're in.  Set an exception for EADesktope.exe as well while you're there.

Thank you for your answer. I think the problem was with the new update, as after it was installed yesterday, everything went back to normal and worked.

I don't know why EA had an issue with launching it shortly before it but it's fixed now so thank you for the help :)
