game stutters despite high end pc and fps please help!

at this point i’m at my wits end. i’ve tried just about everything. wiping my mods folder, reinstalling sims, even doing a fresh install of windows. i’m still struggling with stutters even though i get extremely high fps 300+

my specs are:

NVIDIA GTX 4090

AMD 9950x3D

64 GB Ram DDR5

1tb SSD

has anyone else experienced this issue lately? it didn’t use to happen it just seemed to get worse

I dont know what causes stutters, but I blame windows ;p I am playing on the same game version for nearly a year now, and I used to have stutters for a few years, but recently they just went away 🤯

Alot of other programs also tend to have issues out of the blue and then after some time they go away, I think it just depends on the whimsy windows updates, my PC dosent even tell me about them it just updates when I am away or sleeping 🤷

I think I am going to switch to linux when I get time, does this game run on linux ?

  • FairlyFairyXOXO  Yes, the game runs on Linux... most of the time.  Ask Steam Deck users.  You can also ask them how often Sims 4 stops working because of an EA App update, and how much time it takes to fix the problem.  EA doesn't officially support Linux at all.

I would never recommend someone switch to Linux just to run Sims 4 better.  The trade-off of not having guaranteed support and compatibility just isn't worth it.  If you were running Linux anyway, or had a handheld like the Deck, then sure, try it out.  But that's different than switching over a dedicated Windows PC just to avoid some stutter.

I wasnt recommending anything really, just ranting at that point, no need to get cheeky ;p But I get your point, someone might have take it as a recommendation :) It is good that you cleared that up :) and thank you for answering my question :) Now I wonder if its possible to run it without the app on linux, but thats probably not something we can discuss here.

  • Could you please get back to me? I've been experiencing the same thing for a while. Even if the game starts normally, after a while it starts to stutter and these become permanent! For example, once every 1 minute, once every 30 seconds. I tried with and without mod but still the same! I experience stutter periodically. No other game has this problem. I checked this with Msi Afterburner.

I actually think this is related to the game engine. I tested it on two different computers. While I was experiencing these issues in Sims 4, I opened Sims 3. And it ran smoothly for 2 hours. But Sims 4 always causes problems. All I need is someone to record the history with MSI Afterburner. Play the game for an hour, enjoying it, and then stop game (Time 0) . If there are frametime drops during the 15 minutes you're idle, I'll be sure it's entirely game-related. Hopefully, someone will be able to do this short test…

Well, not me sorry love but I have a laptop and it requires Asus Aura to keep it together, and Aura conflicts with Afterburner ;/

Can Aura run the same diagnostic you wanted to get from Afterburner ?
