My game crashes right after opening it.

Hi! So after latest update (29.04.2025) my game won't load. It starts then when dark blue loading screen comes it just closes. I don't have any info "The Sims 4 stopped working" or something, the game just stop and ea app starts. I took mods from mods folder, repaired game many times, reinstalled the whole Sims, reinstalled graphic drivers and it's still not working. :(

  • uprvom02uxyo  Did you move the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, or a Sims 4 folder somewhere else?  I ask because it sounds like you moved the folder that contains the game's program files, not the user folder, but perhaps you installed the program files into Documents.

Please let me know what's in the folder you moved.  Please also open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and list the location you see there.

  • uprvom02uxyo  Please remove the saves folder and see whether it helps.  If it does, there's a master bug report you can use, and EA_Cade has requested affected saves here:

You can also try to recover your old saves.  Create a new save; no need to spend much time on it.  Save your progress, quit, and move your old saves from the old folder to the new one.  Make sure to renumber the newest save, that you just created, if it conflicts with one of your older saves.

Try again to load the game, and if you can get to the Main Menu, use Load Game to select an older save and play it.  If the save is fine, you can continue playing it and save your progress; it might work again.

If removing the saves folder doesn't help, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, if you can get that far.

If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I don't have saves folder in The Sims 4 folder because I took them out before reinstalling a game and I can't make a new one until the game starts so I don't think it's saves. And I can't take Sims 4 folder out on desktop because everytime I'm trying it says that it's open somewhere but it's not. Also I have it in ea games folder not Electronic Arts i don't know why.
    Here's my dxdiag

  • uprvom02uxyo  I apologize for the late reply; I've been away from the forums here and there lately.

The "open in another application" message is probably because of OneDrive, so if it's running at all on your computer, whether you deliberately use it or not, please pause syncing.  You can do so by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen, or sometimes hidden in the Tray (^ icon).

Your dxdiag shows a few generic Sims 4 errors, nothing specific enough to point to a particular cause, so removing the user folder is the obvious next step.  If you still can't move it, even after pausing syncing and restarting your computer, rename it instead.  The game won't be able to use it if it's not called "The Sims 4."

It worked and I could move the folder on desktop! And sorry for late reply too. What should I do next? Ea shows that I need to download the game again, should I do this?

Update: I downloaded the game again and it's still closing on itself. I thought that maybe thiwould work when I took the old folder out but it apperently didn't and I literally don't know what to do. Please is there anything that can fix it?? :(

Oh sorry it seems I didn't understand at first what to do and removed the games files not users. I removed good folder and this time it worked. The game started and it's working but I found that I my main game save is the problem and is there anything that can fix it? I don't want to lose it. :(

  • uprvom02uxyo  Some players have said that creating a new save is enough to get the game to load with the old saves present.  So try adding back your old save.  If it still won't load, add back any mods or custom content you were using before the patch, updated versions where necessary.  Some other affected players have said their saves will only load with their mods and cc present.

If adding back mods and cc helps, I'd love to know what you're using, so I can compare it with lists from other affected players and hopefully figure out what is causing the issue.

EA_Cade has asked for affected saves here as well, if you're willing to share:
