Re: Game crashes after 15 min

I have at least one bloated save file and crashes after 10-15 mins in game, but no lags, no excessive waiting time for saves to load etc

I deleted homeless sims via MCC Command Center and deleted Winter Fest from my calendar, assuming is that Father Winter issue, but Winter Fest haven't occured yet in my game since the update, does it still count?

And when I was checking through MCC, there were no extra adult sims in the NPC hidden category, so I don't get it

I installed the Shoul Fix SIAFU Error mod, just in case, but didn't actually get that error message

The game is for sure using up all my RAM cause the crashes just shut down my PC as well, and this never happened before

I'm currently trying to save my sims on the gallery, but I hardly manage to upload two or three families per session before the game crashes...

@myBTSims save files sizes can vary a lot. Saves that have large houses are bigger than others. The question is if you have a sudden increase compared to the ver files. If you don't have extra father winters, then it's most likely not the issue.

Does it occur on all lots for you or only a specific one ?

If you sent me your save I can check it out.

I'm currently trying to upload my two main saves on dropbox, but it will take a while...bad connection today.

Anyway, I'll attach a pic of my save files folder cause I can't really tell, honestly (at the bottom)

And after restarting the game many times, earlier today, just to save my sims on the gallery, I have this lastUIException_63742529493

I used mainly three houseolds in two different saves and the crashes occured every time. But it crashed even when I was in CAS

And I tried removing all my CCs and mods and starting a new save + family a few days ago, but it crashed all the same

My PC is not particularly powerful, but this is the first time I'm having these issues and only with the game

Thank you for the reply, as soon as my link will be ready, I'll send it to you!

    @myBTSims I split your thread.

After looking at your save I don't think you issue is related to the other. Your save is just really big and since you have 6 GB I believe that it crashes out-of-memory.

I started your game and my computer used almost 5 GB of the RAM.

If you have other things running that can lead to an out of RAM crash.

Do you have any crash logs in your doc folder ?

    @crinrict No, no crash logs

That save has always been quite big and I could play it normally till just before the patch, no crashes at all

Could you please post the following info

    1. Your Computer's DxDiag
    2. If you have, the following file: Documents\electronic arts\the sims 4\lastcrash.txt
    3. The following file: Documents\electronic arts\the sims 4\config.log

You can upload DxDiag and config.log directly to your post.

For any lastCrash files, either create a rar file and upload that or copy/paste the content of the file to a post inside spoiler tags (the icon next to the strike-through)

Also could you try playing in windowed mode and check on your RAM usage while you play ? How high does it go ? How much is used of your overall RAM ?

    Here you go... @crinrict

And I copy-pasted the text from the last UIException I was mentioning yesterday

As I mentioned before, I tried to remove all CCs and mods, repairing the game and playing in a new save file and with a new family, only two sims randomly generated and placed in a basic starter home from base game, and the crash occured all the same.

I usually play with mods on, so yeah, at times I get that log and other last exceptions

Right now, I just sent it because I was wondering if it may be related to the crashes...

    I'll test it without mods

Ok, I removed all my mods and CCs, played as much as I could (15 mins) then it crashed and I couldn't save

No logs this time around. Those are related to mods, clearly, and I always tried my best to keep mods updated.

Anyway, I don't know, looks like I won't be able to play anymore

Do you think that uninstalling the game and re-installing only some  of the expansions will do the magic?

To be honest, I still find it odd because I installed two more packs (1 game pack and 1 stuff pack) just before the november patch and played for a few weeks with all my mods, CCs and in that same save file #3 without any kind of problem, crash or new error...So, really, I don't know...

@myBTSims  Just as a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see how a new save runs.

If it still crashes, let me know whether your entire computer crashes as well, and please also look in the Reliability Monitor for relevant entries.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes.  You'll see a list of errors and updates, with a column for each day.  (Today is all the way on the right.)

For any errors that happen while you're testing in the clean folder, click "View technical details," then copy the information and paste it into a text document.  (Notepad is fine.)  You can attach the file to a post as you did with your dxdiag.  Sometimes the Reliability Monitor doesn't update right away, so if you don't see any related errors, be sure to check back an hour or two.  The timestamp on the initial chart can also be off by up to an hour, so that's not an entirely reliable metric, but the one within the technical details should be accurate.

    So, hi ^^

I played successfully for about 40-45 mins this time around (new ts4 folder, new save, new family) and I was about to save and close the game, but it crashed, shutting down the whole PC.

I didn't even click on the options > save menu, tbh, and the sim was simply eating at a normal speed, nothing strange (and no lags or strange stuff in the gameplay either)

There are no error messages or logs in TS4 folders

I checked the reliability monitor and, for now, the only error detected is this:

(I'm from Italy, the infos are in Italian)

Precedente arresto del sistema inatteso a 14:31:34 su ‎03/‎12/‎2020.
    [Previous abrupt system shutdown]

@myBTSims  Since there's no software error, at least as far as you're seeing, that makes a hardware error more likely.  If you're up to it, I'd like to see the results of some hardware monitoring.  Download hwinfo from here:

    https://www.hwinfo.com/download/

You don't need to install anything if you don't want to; just choose the Portable version, unzip it, and launch it from Downloads or wherever you want.  (If you would like to install, be sure to click the green button, not the orange one.)  Restart your computer, and don't open any other apps.  Launch hwinfo, choose "sensors only," and click the icon that's a sheet of paper with a + sign to start logging.  Save the file to your desktop for easy access later.

Wait five minutes, then launch Sims 4 until it crashes.  Even though your computer shuts down, the log should still be intact up to that point, but just to make sure, please let me know how long hwinfo runs before the crash.  You can upload the log to a third-party free filehosting site and link it here.  Please leave it in .csv format, or if you use OneDrive to share, please compress it in .zip format instead.

P.S.  Having some of the info in Italian isn't an issue; the critical data is always easy enough to decipher.

@myBTSims  There's nothing in your hwinfo log that would definitively explain your computer crashing.  Your processor runs quite hot, over 90º C, but that's not surprising.  And it was a few degrees cooler than its max when the log ended.  Your computer was handling its memory swap fine as well, keeping about 800 MB of physical memory free at all times.  So I don't necessarily think this is a memory issue.

How long exactly did the log run though?  It cut off at 17:45, and if that's how long you played, that's all fine.  But it would be interesting to know if the shutdown happened a minute or two after that, both because there might be some missing data (e.g. a possible temperature spike) and because the data not being logged is useful info in itself.  But if you think that's about the right amount of time, then there's probably nothing else to see.

It's a good idea to run chkdsk though, in case you happen to find something.  Hwinfo didn't report any disk errors either; I'm just saying it's worth trying.

You can attach the results to a post as you did with your dxdiag.

The crash occured quite exactly at 9:53 pm so I guess the testing went on till then(??)

Not sure, in the log, the last field I can see is registered at 21:53:33, isn't that the time of the latest action recorded? I'm far from being an expert, sorry LOL

About the rest, will do asap, thank you for guiding me through this ^^

Ok, listen... I'm not 100% sure it went well.

I ran the scan and restarted my PC (and while scanning it said it was correcting something? Not sure)

Anyhow, when I followed the steps to create a copy of the logs on my desktop, the file was empty and I couldn't really get the results to show in powershell, even though I copy-pasted the suggested codes.

So I kind of...followed the first guide, to simply read the results and I tried copying them, but ended up copying the register itself.

I'm linking you that...I could have copy-pasted the errors, but at least you have all showing there, I guess (?)

    "EventTest"

    Spoiler

Hope it is ok, sorry for the mess ;-s

@myBTSims  The log is mostly in gibberish; I can't really get anything useful out of it.  You're not the only one to report that the PowerShell command doesn't work, and I'm not sure why.  But you should still be able to find the results in the Event Viewer; those don't get erased for a while.

You can also run chkdsk again, if you want.  The command does fix some errors, so it's possible that it will come up clean this time.  But since the process takes a while to run, you might want to look for the existing report first.

Aehm... I replied earlier, and now my post is gone?

I was saying that I scanned the PC again, but I couldn't get a txt version of the infos and errors and I don't really understand the report.

Anyway, there's not much I cand do and I can't even change my computer right now.

Thank you so much for the help and your patience so far!

@myBTSims  It's possible your post was flagged as spam, especially if you edited it a few times.  (This site's spam filter can be a bit aggressive.)  Anyway, it's strange that you can't highlight and copy the text from chkdsk; I've always been able to do that with other Event Viewer reports.

The bottom line is though, there may not be much you can do.  It can help to play right after a restart, with no other apps open, as well, although it's not clear that memory management is an issue.  It might also help to play on low graphics settings, and to make sure the laptop can keep cool overall, for example using a fan or at least elevating it to let air circulate underneath.  But those aren't real fixes and may only help around the edges.

I'm sorry I don't have anything more concrete to offer.

In the deleted post I copy-pasted some of the infos I got from the Chkdsk register (with some eng translations I found online), the only problem was to save a txt copy of the codes and infos from the powershell scan.

Anyway, don't worry, it's ok, you helped me a lot and I'm thankful.

Hopefully it will get better, somehow, or I'll be finally able to buy a new pc

    Thank you!
