@puzzlezaddict Hi I'm having the same problem. First my save file I was making wasn't loading into one of the households so I tried fixing that. I took the The Sims 4 folder out of the Electronic Arts folder and put it on my desktop, but I think I made it worse because when I put everything back into the Electronic Arts folder (You know where it spawns when you open the game. Now the game opens but it crashes while on the loading screen. I can't even get to the main menu.
Edit: I did that dxdiag thing I followed the directions you left.
@Leannonme39 Does Sims 4 work properly if you remove the user folder from Documents > Electronic Arts and don't put anything back? Please test if you haven't already and let me know.
Your dxdiag lists a number of Sims 4 crashes, but they're all too generic to help with troubleshooting.
@FoxyLover04 You provided the dxdiag correctly, and it shows the problem: Sims 4 is crashing because the AMD graphics driver is crashing. But your laptop should be running the game with the Nvidia graphics card instead. So please tell it to do so: open Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics settings, click Browse, find TS4_Launcher_x64, and choose the high-performance processor. Do the same for TS4_x64. Restart your computer and test.
If you get another crash, force the laptop to use the Nvidia GPU through the Nvidia Control Panel. Right-click the desktop, select the CP, choose Manage 3D Settings > Global settings, and choose the high-performance Nvidia processor. If this helps, you can remove the global setting and apply it only under Program settings, for TS4_Launcher_x64 and TS4_x64. But please test the global setting first—a few players have reported that the program setting doesn't work correctly.
@puzzlezaddict Yes it works. I was able to play normally.
Update: The game loads to the main menu when I only have my tray files in the folder. When I have my mods the loading screen to the main menu freezes to a point I have to close my game and the saves won't work at all it crashes before it finish loading to the main menu. I don't know if its my doing or the game itself. I really hope there's a solution because I've been working on my save file for two months now and all my work will be gone.
Update 2: I put all my save files in one by one and it seems to be working but now when I put my mods folder in the loading screen won't go all the wat through it just freezes to the point I have to close out of the game.
@Leannonme39 It sounds like you've established that the problem is something in your Mods folder. Here's a list of mods and cc currently known to be broken:
Other than that, the 50/50 method can narrow things down quickly:
https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method
If you need further mod-related help, please post in the Mods forum describing the problem and what you've done already. It's not that I don't want to help, but I don't know enough about which specific mods are broken right now to offer more than the 50/50 method linked above.

Hi, my Sims 4 game is not working either. It's very distressing for me..
The game also crashes at launch, screen flicks black goes white then crashes back to EA app. I've repaired the game multiple times, but it never worked. So I deleted the the game and EA app and reinstalled them, but still the same problem. I have no idea what to do next...
I ran a DxDiag, but don't understand it. Find my DxDiag file attached.
Will someone help me, please?
@Jeanine112 Thanks for the dxdiag, which doesn't list any Windows errors but does show that your graphics drivers are very out of date. Please update the Intel driver first; you can find the newest-available driver here:
Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator." Restart your computer afterwards.
You can find the newest Nvidia driver here:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/
Select GeForce, 900M series, 920M, Windows 10, and download the Game Ready Driver dated April 2019. It's still old but several years newer than your current one. As before, run it as an admin, and restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.
If Sims 4 crashes again, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor. Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day. Today is on the right.
Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash, specifically after updating both drivers. If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here. If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.
@puzzlezaddict I can play now but the save file I worked two months on is unplayable. I can't load into any household or edit the lot. It'll go through the whole loading screen but go right back to the map.
Edit: Actually its all my save files I can't load into the household like AT ALL
@Leannonme39 If you're using the Off the Grid lot challenge, please remove it. You can choose Load Game rather than Resume, then click a given lot and choose to load it in Build mode.
Additionally, do you get an error message when you're booted back to the world map? If so, please post a screenshot of it.
@puzzlezaddict No there's no error pop up. It just loads and then goes back to the map. I can't edit build either.
I am having this problem as well.
@Leannonme39 Please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete any lastexception you see there. (This is important—the current file(s) will have stale data.) Try again to load a lot that doesn't work, look for a new LE, and if you find it, upload it here. You can copy and paste it into a reply, in which case please use a spoiler; or leave it as a .txt file, but delete its first line before attaching it.
And to clarify, you can't even load any of these lots in Build mode, or you can load them but not make any changes? Do you see any warning signs or other oddities on the Manage Worlds screen?
@wakeupmeggie As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder. Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content. (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.) Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.
If that doesn't help, please let me know exactly what happens when you try to play, as in, what you see on-screen, including any error message. Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@puzzlezaddict I can't load into any household or build mode. I'm just stuck on the loading screen.
Edit: I can send it, I'm not sure if I did it right but it keeps saying I have an error.
This is what the error says I copied it because I don't know how to screenshot:
Correct the highlighted errors and try again.
- The attachment's lastexception.txt content type (text/plain) does not match its file extension and has been removed.
I opened it and the only thing in it says XML was the root. I'm guessing that means it the root of the problem because if it is I don't know what to do about that because the creator hasn't updated it. I do remember getting pop ups that something in my mods folder wasn't working with the XML or something like that I don't remember word for word but XML was the main issue.
here is the dixdiag
@Leannonme39 Again, you need to delete the first line of the LE in order for this site to allow you to attach it as a .txt file.
@camizbored Please install the newest-available graphics driver for your laptop's processor:
Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator." Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play. If you get another crash, please post a new dxdiag.
It's still crashing so here's the next dxdiag. I installed the new drivers thing and updated and restarted my laptop.
@camizbored Have you forced the game to run in DirectX 9 mode? I ask because your new dxdiag lists two new Sims 4 crashes, both of the game in DX9 mode. If you've checked that box in the game's graphics options (in the lower-right corner, usually to the right of post processing), uncheck the box and restart. If you've added the -dx9 command line argument in the EA App, under Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, remove it.
You can see which mode the game is using at the Main Menu, in the lower-right corner and to the right of the game version.
If this doesn't help, please reinstall the 2022 VC++ runtimes, which Sims 4 uses. Hit Windows key-i, select Apps, scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, click on any version from 2015 or later, and select Uninstall. Don't touch the older versions. You can download the newest runtimes directly from Microsoft:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170
You'll need both the x86 and x64 versions of the 2015-2022 runtimes, but you can skip the ARM version, which is for a different class of device. Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.
I removed the—dx9 command and installed both of the runtimes, but the game is still crashing. I am starting to lose hope.
I also cannot access the main menu of the game. The game has never gotten that far in the startup process.
@puzzlezaddict I don't know what I did but my game works perfectly fine now mods and all. I still wasn't able to get the LE txt file to work even with deleting the first line but Thanks a lot for the help its gratefully appreciated.
@camizbored Please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there. Make it local, as in, don't link your Microsoft account or another email address. (You should have the option to continue without adding an email.) You'll be able to launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything, but your saves and other user data won't be available.
If you get another crash, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor. Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day. Today is on the right.
Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash, specifically in the new account. If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here. If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@Leannonme39 I don't know why either, but I'm glad to hear the game is working again for you.
I really appreciate you helping everyone despite not working for EA! I have been struggling with my game since the September update and I am losing hope. My game crashes most times during the loading screen but has opened and allowed me to play a handful of times in the past month and a half. I have filtered through my mods and deleted corrupted mods and I have done the 50/50 method with mods and it seems that this is not the problem since the game has been playable a few times.
@Olivia84677 Does the game ever crash with no mods or custom content present? I understand that sometimes it runs fine with your mods, but it's possible that whatever is causing the crashes is situational. You don't need to save your progress when testing if you don't like the effects of removing the mods and cc.
The Sims 4 crashes in your dxdiag are somewhat generic in that they don't point to a particular cause. So it's going to take some experimenting to figure this out, and I would absolutely start with mods and cc.
If that doesn't help, try forcing the game to run in DirectX 11 mode. Open your EA App game library, select Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx11 to the command line box.
Dear @puzzlezaddict
I've seen that you are answering a lot of people with crashes problem, I was a bit depressed about loosing a save I've been playing since 5 years, as my game crash as soon as I go in game. I thought that my computer wasn't good enough, but I was having no problem until the last update, and I see that a lot of people have more crashes, so I tought I'll give a go to this DxDiag thing. I don't know a lot about computer, I could'nt even really understand if my computer is really good enough, but with the DxDiag report I've attached here would you understand what the problem is ?Sorry for my english, I'm a poor french simmer who cannont afford a better computer, just want to know if I have to say goodbye to the Sims or if there is still a chance !Thank you a lot for everything you do in this place !It loads very slowly either way but has not crashed without mods in a while. I put the game in the DirectX 11 mode and my gshade does not appear to be on any longer and I haven't had any more crashing issues today. Could my gshade be the problem if it was outdated? How would you recommend about finding the bad mods if it inconsistently crashes? Thank you for the help.
