Re: Sims game freezes every few seconds

Hello, I'm from Germany. I have the same problem. Maybe i have a useful tip. All this has been happening since the patches around October - November 2024( I think the Live& Death update). I noticed something when I did a test. I've noticed that my sims freeze much more when I have a lot of NPC households in my save. If you use MCCC, the households won't be culled. So I tested deleting all the households. Suddenly the problem was gone. When new NPC households started to accumulate, the problem started again.  I hope so anyone will find out why. ;-)

  • OomarcyoO  Do you use other mods or any custom content?  If so, does it help to remove the Mods foldre?  You don't need to save your progress; this is just for testing.

And how many households are there when you start to delete them, and how many do you need to delete before the game starts running well again?

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • I have repaired the game, reinstalled it, deleted all caches, rebuilt Electronic Arts in documents and removed mods. It is clearly the many NPC households that are causing long loading times and causing Sims to keep freezing. It worked fine before the Life and Death update. I have all the packs so I have a lot of NPC households (with and without lots). I think the bug is there either way, but you don't notice it until you have a certain number of households (NPCs or not). For me the game works up to about 270 households. Anything beyond that makes the bug worse.

  • Notice, I had more than 300-400 households before the life and death update, and everything worked perfectly,

  • OomarcyoOI have that issue often.  For me, it's when the localthumbcache.package file begins approaching 50Mb in size.  From there, performance just gets slowly worse.  I usually get tired of it around 65Mb and finally delete the file and let the game create a new one.  Of course, by the time all of the Households load their pictures again, I still wind up with a 33Mb+ localthumbcache.package file.  I honestly believe that file should be broken up into separate files for things that don't really change ... like the cooking thumbnails.  Perhaps a file for played households, and another for unplayed households.  Not sure how that would work, but I think you get the idea.  Anyway, keep an eye on the size of your localthumbcache.package file.

  • OomarcyoO  I would still like to see a dxdiag on this computer, if for no other reason than to match your hardware with your reported performance issues.

  • OomarcyoO  Thanks, and I don't see anything obviously wrong.  I would suggest you disable the EA App in-game overlay, under Settings > Application.  Or if that doesn't help, and you don't need a connection to EA servers for that play session, put the App in offline mode.  The overlay, or a component of it, is crashing, and you don't really need it or any connection at all other than to use the Gallery or track your progress towards the login rewards.

Hopefully you're playing with the laptop plugged in as well, but beyond that... the game is not running great for a lot of people, unfortunately.  Maybe DirectX 11 mode will make a difference once it's been fine-tuned, which it looks like it's not yet.

yes my laptop is always connected to power. Setting the EA app to offline and turning off the internet didn't help. Anyway, it worked fine before the Life & Death updates. I also restored older save games before Life & Death, and the Sims froze there too. It took me a long time to figure out that it had something to do with the number of households I had. I hope this is a useful hint for EA. Most bugs are acceptable, but this one is annoying because it makes the game unplayable.
