Sim can't interact with anything

So my game isn't frozen as the sims are doing their own thing and it isn't an issue with one particular household. None of my sims can interact with each other or anything in the world around them unless they do it free will. I also cannot to the usual click and drag to move around and can only use WASD or arrows on my keyboard.

I have followed advice already and run it vanilla, I have removed any old mods too so they are no longer on my desktop. It is since the update was run today that it's all stopped working and I don't know what to try next.

Please help!

  • Annilou62  If you have any files in ConfigOverride, please delete them.

Otherwise, try playing in windowed mode instead.  (This is a test, not necessarily a fix.)  If you can't open the Options menu to switch while in-game, you can open Options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).

The idea is that another app might be capturing your clicks, so to speak, not allowing you to click inside the game window.  Running Sims 4 in windowed mode gets around this some of the time, but if it doesn't help, you can try playing with all other apps closed, after restarting your computer.

  • I'm in almost the same situation. I can move the camera but my sims are frozen but the world around moves eg trees, butterflies etc.

Since updating a few days ago sims has become sluggish, none of my sims are interacting with anything specifically the phone, or to cook for themselves. I've done what Puzzle addict has suggested, repaired, started a new save, forced a new folder, removed mods & cc and nothings working the games unplayable. I'm starting to wonder if uninstalling and reinstalling everything would help.

  • SquirclesCC  Try a new save in a(nother) new user folder, with none of your previous content added back, and nothing from the Gallery.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

And sure, you can try reinstalling; it certainly wouldn't hurt.  But if that would take a while, I'd suggest trying other steps first, including repairing (EA App > Sims 4 > Manage > Repair OR Steam > Sims 4 > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files).  This isn't quite as thorough as reinstalling but does cover most of the same ground.
