sims 4 disconnects internet

the sims 4 disconnect my computer from the internet. it seems like it turns my wifi adapter off when it's running. ironically this also prevents it from accessing the gallery

things i've tried:

- allowing ea app and the game through my firewall and antivirus

- accessing the network with a different device while the game is running (my phone, switch, and ps4 can)

- power cycling my pc and router

- googling this exact problem and looking at various different threads and trying all suggestions in them

it's bizarre and incredibly frustrating, any help appreciated

  • @congealed  Since the issue disappears when you use a different network, i.e. the hotspot, the problem is likely your main network.  You've already powercycled the router, but the problem could still be the router itself, or it could be your ISP.  I would therefore suggest contacting the ISP for more troubleshooting.  I'm not sure you could even solve this from your end, but even if so, you'd probably need the tech support to walk you through the process, for example explaining how to open ports on the router or something similar.

  • @congealed  Can you test with an ethernet cable?  If so, please let me know whether the game still disables internet access when you're using ethernet.

If it does, or if you don't have even temporary access to wired internet, please set your phone as a mobile hotspot.  Make sure it's using data, not your home wifi.  Disconnect your computer from the home wifi and connect to the hotspot, then let me know whether the same problem happens.

no, i can't test with an ethernet cable

the problem seemed to end when i used a mobile hotspot, although i have very limited data so i can't use that as a solution

as soon as i disconnected from the mobile hotspot and went back to home wifi, it went back to saying it was connected, but had no internet access

    other things i've tried:

    - launching ea app in offline mode (game still kills connection)

    - blocking the game in my firewall as per this thread

    - making sure i don't have legacy edition

  • update: i discovered something even more bizarre

this only happens when i have my laptop (msi) plugged in

i'm not who the bill is under, so i can't contact the isp, but i also wonder how or why the isp would turn itself off  only when s4 is open, along with why the battery charging affects it

@laylamccccc  Does it help to (temporarily) disable your antivirus?  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe, and you can reenable it as soon as you're done.

If that doesn't make a difference, do you use a VPN, and if so, does disabling it help?
