  • mobbinghoods92  Please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just see whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

  • I keep seeing this response to the game crashing, but no one mentions the next step after removing the folder. Can you elaborate more?

  • rossomesauce489  If removing the Sims 4 folder works, that means the problem was something in that folder, and the next step is to test its contents.  Most files and subfolders can be discarded, as the game will recreate them when necessary.

If you use mods or custom content, that's the place to start testing.  You can look for updates for your existing files, or test in batches, or use the 50/50 method, whatever works for you.

Once you've sorted through your mods and cc, you can add back the contents of the saves and Tray folders, plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those.  None of these files are likely to cause any problems with the game itself, although you could of course have a bad save that can't be loaded.  In that case, the other saves should work fine.

If you add back all this content and your game won't load, and the issue is NOT a specific save, it would be best to remove the saves folder and test again, and if that works, add back your saves more slowly.  I've seen the occasional report of a bad save causing crashing at or before the Main Menu.
