Sims 4 random crashing

@puzzlezaddict  Thank you,  I did try to find my orignal post to update but couldn't  find it - obv wasn't  looking hard enough 🙂 

I didn't do a clean boot before as we replaced some ram and it started behaving perfectly and  has just started doing the same  thing again.

Could  it  be overheating?  The only reason I ask is when it  crashes the fans kick  in  and they are really loud almost as if they are desperately trying to cool  it down?  Sometimes it will  only do it after 10  mins of gameplay when the computer has been off all night,  or like today it ran for about 4 hours before happening  and when I try and play again  it crashes  quickly so poss still too hot?  

I will look at disabling MSI and see if this helps  and will look  at doing a  clean  reboot - if it is  hardware related could you possibly recommend another programme to check the performance of everything.

@loubylou1983  It could definitely be overheating, which is why I said hardware monitoring was the next step after a clean boot.  Overheating wouldn't usually cause the errors in your dxdiag though; that's why it's worth disabling the MSI software and then trying a clean boot if it doesn't help.

For the hardware monitoring, download hwinfo from here:

You don't have to install anything if you don't want to—download the portable version, unzip it, and launch it directly from Downloads or wherever you want.  (If you would like to install, be sure to click the green button, not the orange one.)  Restart your computer, open hwinfo, choose "sensors only," and click the icon that's a sheet of paper with a + sign to start logging.  You can save the log to your desktop so it's easy to find later.

Wait five minutes, then open Origin and Sims 4, and play for at least 20 minutes, or until you get a crash.  (You can stop the logging by clicking on the same icon.)  Then upload the log to a third-party filehosting site and link it here.  Please leave it in .csv format, or if you're using OneDrive, zip it before uploading.

Thank  you, I disabled MSI and restarted the computer in a clean boot mode - the game crashed on both occasions within 5 minutes.

I downloaded the hwinfo and had it running 5 mins then started the game and once again it crashed within 5 minutes.  Here is the link for it - hopefully it will show you something. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xffrjwhkg6nff0n/Hwin.CSV?dl=0

Just to mention there is a fan for the cpu  and  one on the gpu obviously but other than that there is only one case fan that isn't connected to the mb. It only seems to be connected to psu, so presumably only runs at one speed?

Any info would be great, I have  attached another dxdiag file just on the off chance it shows anything different since disabling the msi software etc.

@loubylou1983  What do you have for a power supply?  (If you're not sure, you can just look at it.)  lease list the manufacturer, wattage, and rating, i.e. Corsair 750W 80+ Gold; or just link the product page if you know what model you have.

The hwinfo log has some strange readings.  For one, a couple of the PSU readings aren't present at all, and in fact they're the ones I'd most want to know about.  Your graphics card runs fine on full load for a couple minutes, but then the wattage starts to fluctuate, suggesting there might be a power issue.  It's difficult to tell though without a direct reading.

Your GPU fan also reports running at zero RPM, which is odd considering that it's doing a good job of keeping the card relatively cool.  Still, it would be good to physically look at the fan and make sure it runs when the computer is on.  Other than a couple of stranded sensors that don't seem to be connected to anything, all the temperature readings look fine.

For the case fan, it's not unusual to have one or more fans plugged into a hub which is plugged directly into the PSU.  It's still better to have the fan plugged into the motherboard as well though.  It should have a small cable with an equally small four-pin connector that you can plug into the board's case fan header.  Look for the one labeled with a v on page 14 of your motherboard's manual:

I'm not sure this is a power issue though.  Since the dxdiag just lists a bunch of the same errors with the MSI software, please try to play again, let the game crash, then look for an associated entry in the Relibility Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is all the way on the right.  Please click "view technical details" on the most recent entry, double-check its timestamp (specifically within the technical details) to make sure it is in fact from when the game crashed, copy the info, and paste it here.

Thank  you, ooh this is all getting complicated now, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer and help me out.

Looking at it all 3 fans are running on start up of the computer.

I started up the game again as suggested and like yesterday it  crashed within 5 minutes, I ran the perfom rel test as you suggested and there were 3 entries for the crash so I put them into notepad and have attached them for you to take a look at, I  have  also done another dxdiag just incase that shows anything new.

The psu the computer has is an evolab ATX switching psu - Model - E500BR

@loubylou1983  It is a bit strange that the Desktop Windows Manager would be crashing while you're playing Sims 4, even more so because you ran DISM and sfc a couple of weeks ago and they didn't fix the issue.  But please run them again now, just to be thorough.  Here's the earlier description of how to do it:

@puzzlezaddict  Thank you again, I ran the programmes, first time I did it this morning  I got  message to say the operation completed successfully.

I then ran it again and got an interesting message it said - 

Windows resource protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. for offline repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag. I can't attach it as it is too big, but could try and split  it if you need to see it.

Do  you think it might be worth investing in a new psu anyway? Reading around the evolab doesn't sound that great!

EDIT - I have tried to play the  game twice since this and it is still crashing  the only information  I am getting from perfmon  is - The previous system shutdown at 09:45:00 on ‎26/‎04/‎2020 was unexpected.

I  then tried again and  got the blue screen  again with the fans going mad, I went  back into perfmon and got another report and it looks the same as the prev one, but I have attached it again incase it says something different.

I have also ran another dxdiag so it has the last few crashes on it. Tbh I am getting to the point where I don't want to play it anymore, I am just playing waiting for it to crash ☹️

Thank you, for some reason my reply got removed and marked as spam when I was trying to update it, bit annoying.

I ran DISM and the first report I got a message that said the operatin completed successfully and then when I ran the other I got this message -

@puzzlezaddict  I have been doing some research and it turns out latest nvidia drivers can cause dwm to crash this is a quote I found from a website. 

 "Your Windows 10 system could be equipped with advanced graphics cards that are too hard for the dwm.exe process to handle. Latest Nvidia drivers, in particular, cause the dwm.exe process to fail"

I have tried installing older drivers but Nvidia won't let me or give me the option  to try so I'm a bit stuck now,  not sure if this is anything to do with it but wanted to post on here for you.

We are considering investing in a new psu as reading around the one we have isn't great and might  not be able to handle such a demanding game, not sure if I am clutching at straws though, but I am getting to the point now where I don't want to play anymore ☹️

EDIT - I  downloaded OCCT and ran the power test and within a few minutes it crashed, blue screen, fans going mad and I got this report  -

As you tested with only one RAM module, did you also swapped the modules?

If not:

1. Use only one RAM module and test on slot with both modules.
2. Test the other slot with both modules.
