Sims 4 saves won’t load

I have been having this persistent issue where I am unable to load in most of my saves despite my mods folder not being in my game. This started after updating my game to the latest patch. When I try to load into a save, I get stuck in an infinite loading screen.

I have tried moving my Sims 4 folder to the desktop and letting the game generate a new one. Then, I am able to create a new save and play it without issues. However, when I start adding the old saves back in, I get the same issue. I’ve also repaired my game many times and tried to recover past saves but that doesn’t work either. I don’t understand what happened for my saves to corrupt after the update, if they are corrupted?

When the game fails to load, I get last exception reports but I am unable to read them and when I use the reader online it doesn’t recognize the error. I’ve attached it below.

I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much.

So, I tested the same method on my 3rd save and the issue seemed to be almost all the kids but one (one child, one toddler and one infant except for one) and aging them up allowed me to load them.

The LE I'd get is nearly the same as the previous one I posted, if not the same. I can't post it here as it's reading it as spam unfortunately.

  • jb_miraval  The lastexception you posted most recently here points to the milestones issue, the one the mod I linked should fix.  Are you still using that mod?  You'd need to at least save with it present.  It's supposed to be removable after that, but a couple of players have said they need to keep it installed.

Yes, I still have the mod installed but haven't been saving as I've been troubleshooting my saves.

  • jb_miraval  Then this particular LE error shouldn't happen, and I'm not sure how to get around the issue if the mod isn't fixing it.  But if you do get a save to load, you can use "save as" to rename the save so you have at least one functioning copy.  I realize it wouldn't be ideal to load a save with some content missing from your sims, but it would be a usable backup at least.

As I've figured out how to load into my saves with the method you taught me, I added my mods folder back in to seperate the households again, age up etc and this time be able to save the changes. However, I get stuck on the loading screen when loading a sim that I was able to when unmodded. I did the 50 /50 method twice to try and isolate the broken mod but I can't seem to figure out what is causing the issue.

Here is the latest LE I got:

    </root>

This is with the first save where the issue was the teen, however now I can't load the other sim when I could without my mods folder in.

  • jb_miraval  This LE mentions Failure: 's4studio_accessories/__init__' (s4studio_accessories) and a cc umbrella, if it helps.  It's also possible you have a conflict here, that each mod or cc item is fine on its own but two of them together are the problem.

In that case, add mods and cc until you see the issue, then 50/50 only the last batch to find one of the two conflicting files.  Leave that file in while you 50/50 everything else to find the other.

Separately, what kind of install is this: EA App, Steam, Epic, mixed, or other?  You might need to repair or reinstall the game to fully clear this up, and repairing is obviously easier.

Thanks! I'll let you know if I figure it out.

My game is installed through the EA app. I've repaired it a few times and unistalled it once but I can do the repair again.

  • jb_miraval  I would be curious to know what you find.  You probably don't need to repair the game again if you have a few times and also reinstalled—a repair doesn't always work the first time, but it should have eventually, and a reinstall should always clear out any bad data.

The mod that was causing the issue was the Heleane Preferences Plus mod, though it had never caused me any issues before even though it hasn't been updated in a long time. I'm guessing the recent patch broke it. After removing it I was able to finally load in to my first save with all my mods!

Thank you so so much for all your help, you're truly a lifesaver!!! :)

I haven't tried to load into my other 2 saves but I will soon and see if removing the mod fixed them too.
